2016 MLB Regular Season - It's an Even Year...

Barry Bonds fired by the Marlins today as well.

It sounds like Bonds managed to piss off everyone but Jeffrey Loria. Just goes to show once again that the great players generally do not turn out to be great coaches.

Rob Manfred can eat a bag of dicks.

"How do you expect us to do all the paperwork to keep track of all these hours?! it's madness!"

"How about you just pay them a standard living wage across the board?"

"Well, thanks for your time. Have a good one."

Buck Showalter, there is a man on 3rd, a smasher at the plate and the guy on the mound can't buy an out, do you use your closer?

Nah.

Britton? Not at all. Some of his best performances this season came when the Orioles were tied or behind. There's a reason he's a legitimate Cy Young candidate.

I'm sad to loose, Thor threw a good game. Bumgarner was there right with him. Good luck to the Giants vs the Cubs.

Oh well. Guess we can look at it this way - it's the Giants who get tossed into the frying pan with the damn Cubs now.

And at least we didn't have some jackass in the stands throwing a beer onto the field, unlike some wild card games I could mention.

The Mets stood no chance against the Cubs. I feel that the Giants can make a series of it. I'm still routing for the Cubs. Like to see them win it.

I could insert some "he doesn't represent all Canadians" line here, but it's all been done to death. It's inexcusable and makes Canada (since the Blue Jays represent all of us) like complete fools. Don't be embarrassed about us, we're already to embarrassed that he's Canadian.

^ No worries. I like Canada very much and I know you're not all like this asshat.

Fortunately, the guy who threw the can has come forward to police.

Edit: Apparently Hyun Soo KIm and Adam Jones were targeted with racial slurs as well during the incident.

^ keep that up, you'll end up looking like Philly *shudders*

Good game, but just hate the 1-game playoff. Fun if you don't have skin in the game, but brutal for fans of the teams. Go the whole season, do well, and even do great in the play-in game, and now you're out. Football is geared up for the every game matters thing, baseball isn't. Kinda sucks for it to change to that for one game, and then go back into having series matter again right after.

I know it makes the last month more competitive if they're fighting for more spots, but it just then kills it for me right after. Maybe the old wild card wasn't enough of a disadvantage vice the division winner, but at least it was an actual reward for making it in. And some of those teams (2004 red sox, for example) ended up being the overall champ and deserved it. Seems a shitty break to get tossed from the playoffs because after a pitching duel, your closer threw a bad pitch in a 0-0 game. Sucks to lose a game like that, but a whole season on it is rough when it's a single-game playoff.

Maybe it's a childhood of being second fiddle to the Yankees, but I'd rather it go to more of a points system, and just have AL and NL Leagues, top 4 from each side get in rather than the strict division system we've got now. If the Red Sox and Yankees are the best two teams in the league, why reward the Twins who win 10 less games that year with a home playoff series and make the 2nd best team in the league stay home?

this would also tend towards a more balanced schedule as far as who plays whom. If our wins count the same, we should both play generally the same teams. Don't count our wins the same but let the Royals play the Twins when the Sox and Yankees are slugging it out. Especially when the O's and BJs are also pretty good right now, making the AL East a rough one. If the Sox win one game less than the Twins, but against AL East teams, pretty easy to say the Sox are probably still the better team. Used to piss me off when the Sox would miss the playoffs with low-mid 90s games won, and then Cardinals are able to rest players down the stretch because their 82-win season locked them up a division banner by labor day. This won't fix the AL/NL portion, but will at least balance the teams within the league more.

Put them into bigger divisions, play more of the same teams, and then just take the top 4 (or whatever) from each League and set it up from there. play each team in your League 7-8 times, each team in the other league for a 3 game series, and you get a better idea of who's who for standings, as everyone played the same teams. I don't need to see Tampa 18 times a year; cut that down by half or more and mix in other teams. They're all flying anyway, we don't need to make these things bus leagues. And when the teams are a couple thousand miles away anyway, the divisions kinda fall apart anyway.

This year, it worked out that the 3 division winners and 2 WC teams in both leagues actually WERE the top teams, but not always the case. And definitely would have been different standings if the teams all played the same opponents. Indians should have done much better, for example, the AL Central is pretty grim...

Outside of the BJs with 89, there was a pretty clean line that if you won 90 games or better, you made the playoffs.

And in general, my complaint applies to most sports. Think the Bills/Jets/Dolphins wouldn't mind spreading it out a bit more and not having to play the Pats twice a year every year?

Oof. This is the playoff matchup I really, really, really did not want. Hendricks / Samardzija is the only pitching matchup I feel remotely good about. I have a feeling MadBum / Arrieta in San Francisco is going to get really ugly, really quickly.

Hopefully Bryant and Rizzo come ready to mash all the dingers, because I think that's the only way the Cubs can overcome EYBS.

And at least we didn't have some jackass in the stands throwing a beer onto the field, unlike some wild card games I could mention.

Because no Mets fan has ever done that.
