2016 MLB Regular Season - It's an Even Year...

Well, I think I finally figured out why MLB schedules an off-day between the first and second games of the season. The Red Sox and Indians' opening game got postponed today because of snow in Cleveland, so they'll play tomorrow instead.

Just finished watching the Giants game. Span is going to be a nice addition to this line up. MadBum was off today and I hope it was because he had flu like symptoms. If the Giants can supply that much run support this year (And I know it's only one game) that will go a long way to improving the offense. Heck, even in the world series years the offense was iffy for the most part. If the team doesn't need to depend on pitching, they are in really good shape.

I couldn't follow much of the games today but it looks like Kershaw is dealing. Not surprised. Also, what the heck was up with the Mariners and going error happy today. Also, for everyone who says they can't start opening day early because of weather issues, I give you snow in Milwaukee and two postponements. You're going to have weather issues. It's best to have them at the start of the season than the end.

The Cubs are something they weren't last year, unbeaten.
Arrieta was Arrieta, the offense wore out the Angel's starter in 5 innings including a 40 pitch 4th inning.

The Rockies won a game!!! That won't happen often.
Trevor Story is the only player in the history of the game to hit two homeruns in his major league debut, which was also on opening day. And it didn't happen in Denver. Wow.

Trevor Story might get some ROTYconsideration this year. That was quite a debut.

I know it's only one game but Kris Bryant had a bad debut and he ended up winning ROTY.

When the game starts at 9pm central and the opposing team's ace has a pitchcount of 70 in the 4th you know it's gonna be a long night.

Loved the Cubs seeing so many pitches - sure, you'll strike out some but you'll draw some walks, force some guys into mistakes, and run a few pitchers out of the game too.

That's when they were at their best last year, wearing out starters by the 4th or 5th inning. Even if they only scored a couple runs in the process, they got into the bullpen and created different match-ups, and like last night, better match-ups.

First thing Miggy did was hit a 2 run dinger.

Baseball may have a new fore-father & birth-year of 1857 according to this story.

Coinciding with the start of the major league season, a set of game-changing documents went up for sale this week. Their authenticity and significance are verified by experts that include John Thorn, Major League Baseball's official historian.

The 1857 documents titled "Laws of Base Ball" establish the essentials of the modern game: The distance of the base paths is 90 feet, the length of the game is nine innings and nine players are in the field.

The documents were authored by Daniel Lucius "Doc" Adams, making him the founding father of America's pastime, not Alexander Cartwright, who now is credited.

I liking our new second baseman Timby. Looks like he's liking the bottom of the Yankees order. "Darling Starling" is batting .700 out of the gate.

Tanaka pitched fine, but nothing above the 90mph mark though. He's gonna need all 5 pitches.

"Big Mike" didn't fare as well.

Evoldi is still finding too much of the plate and still can't throw a change-up.

Cubs/Yankees in the fall classic!! :D

To be fair, Castro came out of the gate pretty fast in 2010. As long as the pitcher works fast he won't get distracted ;)

Hopefully last year's demotion, then position change will help him in the long run.

Definitely an improvement over our revolving door effort last year.

Schwarber & Fowler collide and surprisingly, Schwarber is the injured one. Left knee and/or ankle. Hopefully not bad.

The Cubs win again, 14-6. The D-Backs had one else seriously sloppy game. The Cubs walked 10 or 11 times and piled it on in the 9th again.

12 straight road wins going back to last year.

Well, I didn't predict the AL East standings yet.... :D

Karl Buscheck @ BleachReport:

Toronto Blue Jays 93/69
New York Yankees 88/74
Boston Red Sox 87/75
Tampa Bay Rays 80/82
Baltimore Orioles 75/87

Hard to believe how stubborn the O's are.... they just won't go get any pitching. I think their batting line-up is as good or better than just about anyone in baseball. Most pile on about Toronto's line-up and they should, they are very good, but I think the O's win the scoring title in the East this year.... although they won't win the "wins" battle.

Red Sox are VERY young, added Price (31 mill a year with that post season record?).... not sure what to think of them yet. Some great young talent... Big Papi's last year (so he says). Not sure about their pitching staff either, although they are strong at closer.

Tampa Bay will start to feel the effects of loosing Madden now. I think they come in last.

My Yankees starting rotation is stronger than most are saying I think. When Severino is your #4, things aren't that bad. Health as always makes the biggest impact, but this rotation looks pretty strong.

Tanaka
Pineda
Evoldi
Severino
CC

With the possibly historic 7-8-9 combo of Betances, Miller and Chapman the slew of unknown "middle guys" shouldn't have to shoulder as much load as they did last year.

The Yankees didn't grab one free agent if you can believe it... and I think they got better in the process. Mr Castro is a welcomed improvement @ 2nd and Hicks is better than Young. The very versatile Torreyes was kind of a surprise, but he hit better than the rest in spring training and got the nod.

The Yankees are younger and better. I think they can win 92 games and squeak out the division.

Followed by Toronto, Boston, Baltimore then Tampa Bay.

Starting out right... scored 2 runs on last years CY Young winner and won the first series against the Astros 2-1.

I can feel it!

How I wish I could get games over here!
