We have three games opening the season today. That's exciting. I wish we had all the teams opening the season today, or at least more than half the league.

I'm picking the Giants and the Blue Jays in the world series, knowing full well that most everyone is picking the Cubs. I am hoping for a Giants/Cubs NLCS though, but then you don't discount Bochey in the playoffs. With all due respect to Maddon, I consider Bochey the best manager in Baseball. Maddon is close though.

Happy Opening Day and Opening Week. Feel so bad for Diamondback Fans. Losing AJ Pollock for a long time is not a way to start a season full of promise.

I've just discovered live UK cable coverage of the Pirates vs the Cardinals.

I've little or no idea what's going on, but I'm watching it...

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but the decision to schedule a Mets/Royals series was established before the World Series ever took place, amirite? So it's not like they did this on purpose.

MLB and ESPN hold the announcement of the Sunday Night opener until the World Series teams are announced. It's become tradition for a rematch to open the season now that full-season interleague play is a thing.

Except if you're the Giants and have never opened on Sunday night in the years after they won the world series.

Last year was the Cubs home opener. Forgot who they played though, but I want to say St. Louis.

Why do the Mets/Royals play one game tonight, then have the day off tomorrow, then play again? Any particular reason it was scheduled like that?

That happens a lot at the start of the year, for some reason. The Red Sox and Indians play their first game tomorrow, then they're off on Tuesday, then they play their next two games. I've never been able to figure out why MLB does that.

The Mets' April schedule looks odd. There's that thing with the Royals I just mentioned, then they have TWO days off before coming home to play the Phillies. Plus they play absolutely no Thursdays that month...

Wait the Royals are playing interleague he baseball all week long? That sucks.

^ No, I was talking about the Mets. (After the Mets/Royals series, the Royals also have two days off, then they play the Twins for three games.)

Tradition as of this year, if that; this is the first time in MLB history that a World Series rematch occurs on the following Opening Day.

The Mets show right off the bat why they will need their pitchers to strike everyone out to avoid their defense.
