Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)
Steven Matz is down with a partially torn lat muscle.
Jesus Christ, fire the entire Mets medical staff, because they are clearly incompetent.
It actually happen while batting...
And Matz told Collins that he felt pain in his lat after his first start (in which the manager inexplicably pushed him 20 - 30 pitches past what he had been throwing in AAA), and what did Collins do? Throw him in an MRI machine? No, sent him out again. But even more broadly speaking, this is the fifth injury this season that the Mets have describe as not "serious" or "major" that was later revised to a month-plus. Let's look at the team:
Wright - Out since April, career is most likely over.
d'Arnaud - 2nd stint on the DL. Was "day to day" with an elbow injury, and is
still not out of the brace.
Wheeler - Tommy John after originally being described as having a minor injury by Alderson.
Matz - "Hey, coach, I got a little discomfort in my side, should I get an MRI or something?" "GET THE FUCK OUT THERE AND GIVE ME 8 INNINGS ROOK." *dies*
Montero - Injured after being rushed into a spot start after throwing short relief all season.
Black - Neck issue, hasn't been heard from since April.
Carlyle - Back and hamstring put him on the DL back in mid-May,
still not throwing.
Puello - Stress fracture in his back. Dead.
Murphy - Only missed 22 days with a "minor" quad injury.
Cuddyer - Day to day with a knee, tried to PH one game. Will be on DL soon.
Literally all of those guys were either incorrectly diagnosed or were described as day-to-day before falling off the face of the earth. And this is a long-running problem with the team. I think it was in 2008 or 2009 that Jerry Manuel joked, "They’re calling it cramps ... so, surgery on Thursday." Pedro says in his book that players were ordered to play through injuries by ownership. At some point, people need to realize there's a serious institutional issue with the Mets organization and it starts with the Wilpons, who are only still the owners of the team despite being broke because they were friends with Selig.
