2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (LOL NO)

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

If this series is any indication I would love to see a 7 game series between the Bucs and Cardinals. Pirates with two straight walk off wins, and are now 2.5 games back in the Central. Nice way to enter the All Star Break. I may be a Giants fan and live out west, but I really do enjoy watching the Central division in the NL and with the Cubs playing respectable, it should be a fun division for years to come. I just wish the Brewers would keep that consistency they had for a few weeks and not play so poorly the other times of the season.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

interleague is never going away, nor should it.

Should have never started in the first place.

I mean, if interleague play has to happen every day, and both leagues will eventually have the DH and all that crap, then why even HAVE leagues? Is that the ultimate goal - to eliminate them as well?
The leagues exist in name only now, they are just sides to set the playoffs up, also the NL and AL had the same rules for 70+ years, bringing the DH to the NL just returns that to the norm.

Looks like the home run derby and all star game might be rain fests.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

There's a weird contrast where you're saying the leagues are just conferences and then pointing out the anomaly of different rules (saying that the leagues should get rid of that). Maybe the Leagues are more than just conferences because they have different rules?

It also makes a difference who decides. In other sports, the commissioner or the league as a whole make rule changes. Unless this has changes recently, it's up to the National League teams themselves (by majority vote) to decide whether to adopt the DH.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The only thing I'll point out is they previously used a coin flip to determine home field.

Actually, prior to 2003, it simply alternated every year between the leagues.

I see no problem with that but I do remember the topic seemingly being brought up each year that the team with the best record, blah, blah.

This fan vote thing is just stupid.

Nothing quite like going into Boston and taking 2 of 3 before the break.

:guffaw:

Yankees in 1st heading into the break.

AL East is interestingly blah... I don't think it's as bad as folks tout.

I thought Baltimore would be leading now, but the Rays, Orioles and the Blue Jays all got off track the last couple weeks.

As for the Yankees, good to get Ells & Miller back, Gardner & Tex are playing great and McCann and A-Rod are contributing significantly.

As always, it will be interesting to see how the starting pitching holds out, at + adding Nova to the mix although I might have thought about putting CC in the pen and left Warren in the starting rotation - he's pitching better..... although I understand why they didn't.

Nice to see them finally bring up Refsnyder... about time.

Yeah, I'll say.

Not really, I was pointing out the problem with saying that you need two leagues because they have different rules by pointing out they didn't for 70+ years, were they just conferences then?

The DH is coming  it won't matter what the NL teams want, just like it didn't matter that Houston didn't want to move to the AL.

There was no way Bud was going to put the Brewers back in the AL and give up all that sweet Cubs series ticket income.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Alright... I lovin this new HR derby format.

Anyone else with me?

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Yeah, I'm liking the new Home Run derby format. They should have a side HR derby for pitchers. Clay Bucholds wins with 3 home runs.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

I like the new format but the guys with slow pitchers were at a disadvantage, the guys throwing for the Cubs hitters seemed to be in slow motion.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Definitely liked the new format more, kept it moving and added a little bit of excitement with the timer...

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

I think the best part about the new format was mentioned by Golic this morning.

You don't have guys standing there taking 3 pitches...

Loved it.

Now, they can change this, it's time to remove the home-field advantage crap from the actual game.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The only thing I would change about the changed Home Run derby is this, I would have had the time decrease with each round. Start at the 4 minutes, then down to 3 minutes and down to 2 minutes for the championship round. Lets face it, by the end both are tired anyway.

I had the same thought, but Frazier and Peterson both hit the 14 mark in the last round with Frazier hitting the 15th to win it.

Cruel Shoes: Steve Rosenbloom-Chicago Tribune "Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo: Next HR Derby, use Edwin Jackson"

Rosenbloom might actually be a worse writer than Dan Shaughnessy. Christ, he's intolerable.

Edit: I'm not terribly disappointed that Bryant and Rizzo bounced early. I still remember how Sammy Sosa would be shit for like two weeks after the Home Run Derby because it fucked up his swing.

Although the Derby in Petco Park next year will be ... well, it will be a thing.
