Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The MLBPA will never let the AL get rid of the DH, so the NL may as well adopt it...that's the only change we could see here.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Pitcher dingers are the best dingers and anyone who wants to rob us of them is an unholy monster.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

If the NL had the DH, the Cubs would have Schwarber playing full time.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Steven Matz is down with a partially torn lat muscle.

Jesus Christ, fire the entire Mets medical staff, because they are clearly incompetent.

And Matz told Collins that he felt pain in his lat after his first start (in which the manager inexplicably pushed him 20 - 30 pitches past what he had been throwing in AAA), and what did Collins do? Throw him in an MRI machine? No, sent him out again. But even more broadly speaking, this is the fifth injury this season that the Mets have describe as not "serious" or "major" that was later revised to a month-plus. Let's look at the team:

Wright - Out since April, career is most likely over.
d'Arnaud - 2nd stint on the DL. Was "day to day" with an elbow injury, and is still not out of the brace.
Wheeler - Tommy John after originally being described as having a minor injury by Alderson.
Matz - "Hey, coach, I got a little discomfort in my side, should I get an MRI or something?" "GET THE FUCK OUT THERE AND GIVE ME 8 INNINGS ROOK." *dies*
Montero - Injured after being rushed into a spot start after throwing short relief all season.
Black - Neck issue, hasn't been heard from since April.
Carlyle - Back and hamstring put him on the DL back in mid-May, still not throwing.
Puello - Stress fracture in his back. Dead.
Murphy - Only missed 22 days with a "minor" quad injury.
Cuddyer - Day to day with a knee, tried to PH one game. Will be on DL soon.

Literally all of those guys were either incorrectly diagnosed or were described as day-to-day before falling off the face of the earth. And this is a long-running problem with the team. I think it was in 2008 or 2009 that Jerry Manuel joked, "They’re calling it cramps ... so, surgery on Thursday." Pedro says in his book that players were ordered to play through injuries by ownership. At some point, people need to realize there's a serious institutional issue with the Mets organization and it starts with the Wilpons, who are only still the owners of the team despite being broke because they were friends with Selig.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

I use to be a having a pitcher bat purist, but I have evolved. I want the DH in the national league. I'm tired of watching pitchers bat, they suck. Even the "better" hitting pitcher still suck. Let a hitter hit, thats all.

So does Ben Revere. No one is suggesting that Ben Revere gets a designated hitter too.

Revere has somehow managed to scrape within striking distance of being a league-average hitter. I'm kind of shocked.

Personally I think the fact that each league has different rules is absurd. Can you imagine if one conference in the NBA had a three-point-line and the other didn't?

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

That's literally the only rule difference. And it hasn't been that big of a deal until there started being interleague games on a daily basis. It was kind of interesting when there were set weeks with AL/NL play and AL pitchers batting was a phenomenon.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

I care more about getting rid of interleague play than any of this crap about the DH.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

5 years might be a little quick but it will happen, interleague everyday was a step in the process.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

^ The process of what? Eliminating leagues altogether?

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

interleague is never going away, nor should it.

Should have never started in the first place.

I mean, if interleague play has to happen every day, and both leagues will eventually have the DH and all that crap, then why even HAVE leagues? Is that the ultimate goal - to eliminate them as well?

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Relax with the hyperbole, the leagues are never going to be eliminated. They're essentially the same thing as conferences in the other major sports leagues. The National League and the American League may have started out as two totally separate baseball leagues, but they haven't really been for a long time now.

As I recall, in 2000 the league offices essentially ceased operations as independent business entities and all their operational duties were consolidated into the commissioner's office (and I believe this was done because Selig wanted there to be no question of who the MLBPA was negotiating with in the 2002 CBA discussions).

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

That sounds about right. I knew something like that had happened at some point in the recent past but I wasn't sure how long ago it occurred.
