2012 Renewal Axe List

Startrekwatcher, I'm glad you're not in charge!! :rommie:
Too bad--I wouldn't put on crap or tired remakes and I'd actually hired talented writers not hacks. So what quality tv am I missing on broadcast tv?

I don't hate everything but I definitely have antipathy towards a lot of stuff. I'll admit there are a lot of shows on broadcast that aren't necessarily bad--I suppose they are watchable--but I want more than that out of a tv viewing experience--I want to be really invested not just to have something on in the background.

CBS is nothing but formulaic proceduals--there isn't anything new to be found. They simply go through the motions. If you've seen one murder victim, one autopsy, one criminal investigation, one psychological profiling, one group of suspects, one grilling of a suspect and an open confession, roll credits you've seen it all. Same for unrequited love between partners working together. It has been done to death--the first few times was novel the millionth not so much.

NBC is a bunch of reality drek--Biggest Loser, The Voice, The Sing Off, Who Do You think you are, Rock Center and a few middling tv shows that I find mediocre myself--Parenthood, Harrys Law, Law and Order SVU, Grimm.

Yeah... to each his own, but Ringer is downright terrible.
Then you must not have watched much of it. I have found that out of this season it has been the only consistently entertaining tv show--new or otherwise--on this year. True most of the characters are plot devices but that really isn't new these days when writers make the characters secondary to the bigger narrative but the few they do focus on like Sarah Michelle Gellar--who I didn't care for in Buffy-- are really good. I think she has done a great job in creating two very compelling yet different characters in Bridget and Siobhan. I also think Ioan Gruffud as Andrew Martin is nice as well. Yes we could have done without the heavy focus on Juliet and her scheming mother Catherine after the New Year but overall the show has done fairly well in not telegraphing much, providing interesting twists and methodically pulling everyone together.

Now the last episodes are what will ultimately in my opinion determine how I grade the season but so far so good.

So why the heck is Nikita getting so low ratings? Its a good energetic show with good actors. I don't get our nation's taste in entertainment these days. :wtf:

Supernatural is the opposite of proving that you have good taste.

At least with Ringer, most fugglies who like to sneer are not as yet aware that it's shit.

A year ago, I would have been annoyed if Harry's Law was being canceled. Then I saw season 2. Ugh. Season 1 was this brilliant, utterly different series about a lawyer working in a shoe shop with fun, interesting, unique characters.

Season 2 is nothing more than David E. Kelley Generic Law Show Number 73.

The fun, the magic, is gone. I won't mourn its cancellation now.

I have to say the only show on the "likely to be canceled" list that would bother me is Fringe. I like Alcatraz too but I'm not that heavily invested in it.

'How I met Your Mother' should be cancelled. Its well past its sell-by date! :bolian:

I haven't seen the latest season, but seasons six was firing on all cylinders. Just as long as they cancel it before Jason Segal starts to look worse than his old age make-up makes him look in the 2030 scenes, I'm fine with it.

I was thinking the other day despite how mediocre Voyager was its writing was light years better than shows like The River, The Event, Surface, Haven, Eureka, V, FlashForward.

I wouldn't lump Eureka in with those others, although I confess I haven't seen any of the The River.

Today, Fox renewed Glee, New Girl, and Raising Hope.

I don't really care about the first two, but I love Raising Hope, so I'm quite glad it will be returning for a third season.

Me too, it's the best show people don't talk about.

FOX giving Raising Hope a 3rd season means they are probably willing to stick it out for 4/5 years AKA "'Til Death" no matter how bad the numbers get to make money off in the long term.

After tonight's episode I might be taking back what I said about Raising Hope. Wow... what a shocking (ly dumb) cliffhanger!

Jax, you accidentally left Bones off your list of Fox shows. Did they already get a pickup for Season 8, or are they still on the "likely renewal" list?
