2012 NFL Offseason

For Pats fans, Brady restructures to save $7.2M against this year's cap.
This likely means there will be another significant transaction in the coming months, as they are already a few million below the cap. They probably might be bolstering their defense, but since Benjarvus Green Ellis has left for the Bengals, they might be looking to sign a veteran running back a la Michael Bush.

I will kinda miss the Law Firm, he was not spectacular but a steady presence back there. Couldn't catch a ball out of the backfield but was an effective enough runner. You could see they were grooming Ridley last year though.

Suring up the pass rush or secondary would be my first hope however.

Wow, the Bounty punishments are pretty damn severe.

Payton suspended for one year without pay.

And Williams suspended indefinitely. Adios, loser. I never wanted him on the Rams to begin with.

Hopefully, everyone's learned a lesson.

Don't get caught

It's like when you get busted for speeding. Plenty of other people on the road are doing the same thing, but unluckily for you, you're the one that got caught.

I don't see Tebow working out that well for the Jets for several reasons.

1. They continue to undermine Sanchez, they've done everything short of hiding his helmet. This isn't going to bolster his confidence.

2. The Wildcat is a gimmick. When Miami busted it out that first time in NE, the usually well prepared Pats were unable to do a thing against it. But in time, teams stopped it and the fad mostly died.

3. Every week the media will be overanalyzing how many snaps Tebow gets. Every time Sanchez throws a pick, fan will be calling for Tebow.

4. Sanchez and Tebow have different styles. If Sanchez gets hurt, the personnel isn't lined up for Tebow's type of offense.

5. This smacks of a PR stunt to take some attention away from the Giants. The Jets have always been the little brother in town, just like the Mets are to the Yanks.

6. This is adding fuel to the dysfunction fire in the locker room. And it's a questionable move. You just extended Sanchez and signed a back-up. You are really going to carry 4 QBs on the roster?

7. Tebow seems like a great guy you'd want as a teammate. But his abilities to run a pro offense are limited. Their big win streak last year involved a lot of luck and subpar teams. High powered offenses (Lions, Pats twice) got out to big leads they could never recover from.

Precisely. I've been seeing the argument on numerous websites that other teams are just as guilty. I don't doubt that there's a strong chance that more NFL teams have been doing the bounty thing like the Saints. The only difference is that the Saints got caught AND they lied to Goodell about it. If there was evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that other teams were doing the same thing, I would expect to see similar penalties handed out. But all we have right now is what the Saints did, and so it is they who get to be made an example.

Oh, and Drew Brees' Twitter post where he objects to the suspension of Sean Payton is definitely going to come back to bite him in the ass! Not near as bad as Warren Sapp's Twitter no-no, though. He could get sued for naming Jeremy Shockey as the snitch if it turns out to be a false accusation.

I would be very surprised if more than a handful of other teams offered bounties to knock out the opposing team's star players. It's one thing for a DC to tell his players to go out there and keep the opposing offense off-kilter by playing hard (which includes hitting hard and fast) but it's another to actually offer monetary compensation for injuring other players.

Michael Bush signs a four-year deal with the Bears. Forte is pissed.

I agree. It's just that small but vocal minority amongst the Saints fans who'd have you believe that EVERY other NFL team does it. I'm thinking it was more like one or two others.

While they do need a backup RB considering Marion Barber likely isn't going to be around much longer, I don't see why they paid so much for Bush considering their other more important needs.

Don't get me wrong--it's good to see Emery signing quality players and not useless castoffs from other teams like his predecessor did.

While I agree that there was likely more bounties going on than what the Saints did, I think what happened yesterday will largely curb it. This was not some small speeding ticket..... the penalties that got handed out yesterday have the potential to absolutely devestate the Saints, not just in 2012, but potentially for the years to follow. There might be some small-time bounties going on quietly and privately between players, but there will not be any more large-scale programs going on for a while.

Looks less and less like the Aints will be the first team to play the big game in their own stadium.

We'll have to wait until the following year for Tebow to get the Jets there...

Matt Forte has taken to twitter to let the world know he's thrilled about the arrival of Bush:
There's only so many times a man that has done everything he's been asked to do can be disrespected! Guess the GOOD GUYS do finish last....

LOL

Would absolutely kill to have Forte on my team. I wonder what sort of contract he's looking for...

I don't blame him. This marks the third straight year the Bears are paying more money to the backup RB than Forte. Chester Taylor got $7 million to have a historically terrible season. Can't blame Forte for finally getting cranky. He still has pride, after all.

Much like Pork3 said, I'd take him in NE in a heartbeat. Especially as Green-Ellis is now in Cincy.

Knowing them however, they'll find an undrafted rookie or someone totally over the hill instead.

Yeah, I'd love to have Forte, too, but I highly doubt it'll happen. Even though the Patriots do have two firsts and two seconds to work with... :shifty:

And for the second time today, Tebow becomes a Jet.

I hope this circus isn't indicative of what the season will be like

No. I'm sure the actual season will be much worse ;)

Meanwhile, Dick Durbin, senator for my very own state of Illinois, wants to get the government involved investigating the bounty scandal.

Story

I sure am glad they've settled every other issue facing us today, so they have time for this pedantic bullshit.
