2012 Academy Awards show

Poor Lubezki. Not enough people liked your film.

Richardson's work was great, though.

Edit: The Scorsese posse is collecting those technicals.

Man, the original TRON should get some kind of a retro-active oscar or something. All these movies are now getting awards for what the Academy said the TRON team cheated for. 30 years later, it still doesn't seem fair.

HUGO just won for Cinematography and Art Direction. Looks like it is going to be a big winner tonight. :)

This is probably Harry Potter's shot at recognition, but Iron Lady is going to win, in all likelihood.

Edit: Called it.

No surprise, Octavia Spencer wins Supporting Actress!:techman:

Edit- Chastain was awesome, too, but she is going to have many, many, more chances at Oscar gold.

I'd have prefered Chastain, but Spencer is a worthy winner.

Basically every award this year has an odds-on favorite, and Spencer was it for this one, since the Academy loves to soothe its white guilt. Now that that's out of the way, as soon as The Artist wins Editing, we'll know that the sweep is on.

One of the reasons I don't have a problem with Spencer winning. I think she's going to have a solid career from now on, but unless she gets really lucky it's questionable whether she'll ever get another ticket to the awards derby.

Yeah, I know, I follow the prognostication game quite closely.

Still at work... still not able to watch. :sigh:

Nice to hear that Hugo has snagged some trophies. As for Octavia Spencer winning for The Help, well, I can't really comment, as I haven't seen the film. Though I'll agree Jessica Chastain would probably have been a worthy winner as well -- she was excellent in everything I saw her in recently (The Tree of Life, The Debt, Take Shelter... I wonder if perhaps she was nominated for the wrong film).
