2011 Ships Of The Line Images

^ I love it. I hope that future ENT novels will incorporate the NX refit. (Will they? Is it possible they already have? )

^ It hasn't been so far, even by omission. The Enterprise isn't idle long enough at any point between Terra Prime and the end of Beneath the Raptor's Wing.

^ What about the other NXes? Some of them could have come right off the assembly line with the refit already in place (if not added later).

I really hate the word "kitbash" (which a couple of posters have used). Ship components look similar because their engineering is similar. Would we call real navy ships "kitbashed" because they have similar appearances?

No.

So lets stop being so insulting to the artists who are giving us NEW things to look at as opposed to the umpteen-gagillionth Connie, Excelsior, etc. As much as I like those designs, there's more to the Trek universe than them. In fact, I'd like to see a calendar with not one single existing design in it. (Won't happen, because Marketing would put a stop to it, but one can dream, can't they?)

Of these images, love the NX refit, the "verti-bird", and amazingly enough, the ringship (never been a fan of the design, but the execution here is GORGEOUS).

The design isn't in the post-ENT novels for the obvious reason that it didn't exist when they were written.

The description in the calendar implies it was done quickly at some time not too long after the end of the show. No mention of the Romulan War.

I'm sure that could be elided a bit if the novel-writers decide to incorporate the design. I think it actually meshes pretty well with the production-rush Daedelus-vs-NX situation in the novels, since it's supposed to be a quickie-upgrade itself.

But honestly, what would that change about the novels? One line about the "engineering section" added?

It could be used to install the much anticipated warp seven engine, the strategic advantage of which could easily play a significant part in a story.

For starters, it would confuse people who haven't seen the calendar.
If they haven't seen it how would they be confused?
"Oh a new engineering section. Wonder what that looks like"
Turn the page.

Yeah umm, those ships were destroyed already so it's not going to happen.

That's one reaction.

Other people will read it and think "What the hell are they talking about?".

Milage varies.

Saul:

As of the most recent novel, there is one NX ship left, other than Enterprise. It's the NX-06, Endeavour.

Columbia is MIA (Destiny and all that) as of the end of Raptor's Wing. Challenger NX-03, Discovery NX-04 and Atlantis NX-05 are all destroyed by the end of Raptor's Wing. The only remaining active NX vessel in Starfleet other than Enterprise is Endeavour NX-06 and that ship suffered melted hull plating in a Romulan nuclear blast.

There isn't much to upgrade.

I just got it in the mail today and I was a bit disapointed. I loved the Kelvin and the others but I thought it was way to many TOS/TMP images. No Voyager, DS9, Defiant or Enterprise D and only the shuttlebay of Enterprise E. Why did they not include any this year?

The NX-01 refit is a huge improvement. And I want to pour over those images of the ringship :techman: , what ENT should have been all along.

The main ship in the second-from-last image is really not that great... I wish they'd stop putting so much fan stuff into the SoTL, and this is why.

Other countries surely have shuttle names that could be used... ;)

Whereas I love seeing the few never-before-seen designs they put into the SOTL calendars, and hope they keep it up! (Although I will agree with you about that particular ship... it doesn't do much for me at first blush.)
