Damn me for trying to avoid spoilers and then entering this thread.
I'm DVRing the primetime coverage and was looking forward to seeing the swimming final and Phelps go for gold.

I could never DVR the Olympics, as there is just too much sport going on.
Another world record in the pool. And I'm even more happier about this one.
Well, live bands or not, the music was crappy. So there. They imported Sarah Brightman to sing; if they were going to have live ethnic music (ie. non-Chinese), why didn't they either get decent recordings or import some decent musicians?I was wondering the same thing, but then I saw the Mariachi band and the guys in kilts. Those were live bands on side-by-side stages. The music they used for the Parade of Nations was dismal. It's like they played 52-Pickup with a collection of ethnic music from around the world, edited it together, and put it on an endless loop. There was no imagination, the renditions were blah, and as much as I love bagpipe music, I got really tired of it after the fifth time it played. There was no attempt at all to match the music to the countries. Why were they playing Mexican music for China?
By the way, I'm watching Fencing on USA and that sport is "interesting" to say the least. Ah the olympics. The only time you get Diving, fencing, Archery, Rowing, and Equestrian as "sports."![]()
The fact that she just broke up with her boyfriend (another Olympic swimmer) made headlines.
I Tivoed a lot of the last Olympics but it seemed silly to time-delay a broadcast that was already time-delayed.

Well, I was going out this evening and I really did want to see Phelps.
Speaking of which, damn is he good or what. He obliterated that record and he's only just begun. I'm feeling the olympic hype and it's great.
Since he won his weakest event by a full body length it sure looks good. Time will tell if he is the second coming of Mark Spitz.
Just read an article on Yahoo... some of the opening ceremonies fireworks were actually computer generated.
