Damn me for trying to avoid spoilers and then entering this thread. :( I'm DVRing the primetime coverage and was looking forward to seeing the swimming final and Phelps go for gold.

I could never DVR the Olympics, as there is just too much sport going on.

Another world record in the pool. And I'm even more happier about this one.

I Tivoed a lot of the last Olympics but it seemed silly to time-delay a broadcast that was already time-delayed.

I really have nothing to do with the girl... but thought some of you boys would prefer this one of Stephanie.

Also I have a Masters degree assignment due on Tuesday and I'm wasting time....

Well, live bands or not, the music was crappy. So there. They imported Sarah Brightman to sing; if they were going to have live ethnic music (ie. non-Chinese), why didn't they either get decent recordings or import some decent musicians?

Yep ... Eamon Sullivan, the current holder of the 50m freestyle. Broke Alexander Popov's record which stood before Sullivan and then Bernard beat it. Sullivan has 3 of the 4 fastest times ever.

Well, I was going out this evening and I really did want to see Phelps.

Speaking of which, damn is he good or what. He obliterated that record and he's only just begun. I'm feeling the olympic hype and it's great.

First gold medal for Great Britain in the women's road race, won by Nicole Cooke. Nice to get on the table. :techman:

Since he won his weakest event by a full body length it sure looks good. Time will tell if he is the second coming of Mark Spitz.

Will be interesting to see what happens. Has a semi final and a final today (well in 2 hours or so). Wasn't the fastest in 200m freestyle. The relay should be interesting.

Also the Australian women should win their finals/semi finals.

Wow, the Men's 400 Meter Freestyle Relay was a tight race! USA stole it from France at the last second!

Holy shit that 4x100m relay was insane. I cannot believe the US out touched France. The french swimmer was ahead by the smallest of margins going into the lunge -- but the US swimmer literally out lounged him by a finger. That was pretty damn exciting.

More like they stole it in the last one hundredth of a second. Hot damn that was AMAZING!
