Good point. Besides, even with the dip in ratings this year, BBC hasn't yet started to lose money on Doctor Who, and until they actually start losing money on it, there won't be any chance of a cancellation.
Of course, the replacement show could well be cheaper than DW but it might not be as lucrative in the long run and overseas.
I still don't think it's a long shot that the show might be rested for a couple of years and may return with a new lead and/or show-runner. But I'm often pessimistic in life - that way things can only ever come as a pleasant surprise.

I can never figure out the overseas part. It seems that for every post that brings it up as a factor there's another that says what the BBC does has nothing to do with it.
I don't honestly know myself. But I would imagine that the BBC can't ignore the fact that the show sells well abroad and that it raises money by dint of merchandise etc., both at home and abroad. As the current government continues to cut funding to the BBC, I would have thought that a show's money-raising potential becomes all the more acutely important.
Just wait for internet articles to be titled

BBC "sell" rights to BBC Worldwide, who are their commercial arm, BBC Worldwide then sell the rights on or use them on international channels. After paying for itself BBC Worldwide then return the profits to the BBC, which is used to supplement the Licence Fee. With the settlement being decided now there is likely to be more reliance on that money and a push to make more profit out of it, so it would seem to be a fair bet that profitable shows will see more support than non-profitable ones.

That article seems kind of sloppily written to me. They say Capaldi is sticking around for another season, which will take him to "the end of next year." But at this point we know next year won't have a full season, really not possible since the earliest they can begin filming is June.
The earliest they can begin filming is June. This is confirmed fact. Therefore, they can't do a full season for next year. Simple logic.

Is that confirmed? If so, where? I heard a potential for that but nothing beyond rumors. You may well be correct, if that's true. I just hadn't heard it officially.

I suspect that The Wormhole is referring to the Sherlock filming, which will be April to June, and the fact that the scripts for Sherlock haven't been written yet nor preproduction work done. I might not say that it's a "confirmed fact" that Doctor Who won't film until summer 2016 at the earliest, just very, very unlikely.
As mentioned above, I'm extrapolating based on Sherlock's filming dates, and that Moffat has made it clear Sherlock and Doctor Who won't be filming simultaneously. Therefore, Doctor Who can't film prior to June. And that's assuming there aren't delays with Sherlock (which shouldn't surprise us if there are).
