”Afraid” of the new Picard series?

Are you afraid how the new Picard series might change the way you look at TNG? A discussion related to this is in another thread about Lal and could she appear in 'Picard'.

I'm not afraid I guess but a little bit concerned. Obviously it's been twenty years and people change even in scifi.... but still, how may that affect the way we see certain people, Picard being the first in line. After 'Picard' are some scenes different in TNG? ”Future Picard would have done that differently” etc.

If a character like Lal would appear, would that somehow ”ruin” episode 'The Offspring'? Depending on what would happen of course. What about other characters? One example could be Worf's brother Kurn. I think DS9 completely messed up by erasing his memory, then lying to him and making him someone completely different. (if anyone likes that episode, sorry, but I think that was dumb and also a discussion to be had somewhere else, that would be too off topic?)

TNG is my favourite series and for a TV series it means almost too much for me. I wouldn't like it to be messed up with 'Picard'. That won't happen most likely but I'm nervous, maybe I shouldn't be. It's just that once you've watched an episode, it's pretty much impossible to unwatch it.

As I type this, this sound stupid.... sorry for wasting your time if you read this far. :)

EDIT - Should this topic be in TNG forum?

Despite going through all of TNG recently, and liking quite a bit of it, at the end of the day I still don't really consider myself a TNGer. So I'm not going to be too broken up about what PIC does or doesn't change about the 24th/25th Century.

I do have a friend who's a gigantic TNG Fan who's going to let me know what she thinks when she sees PIC after I highly recommended it to her. So I'll find out a perspective that isn't mine really soon.

Although I'm a fan of TNG I'm not as invested in it as I am with DS9. I have no worries that it will be spoiled for me by the new show.

I really do hope Lal appears though.

It doesn’t do anything to TNG. Ten years down the road and we’ll have yet more versions and follow ups and reimagining. These things are now disposable like toilet paper.

A lot of people were mad about Luke Skywalker's fate (I loved The Last Jedi, but I totally get the desire to live alone on an island for 30 years), and with 9 parts to go there's plenty of time for Picard to infuriate fans.

I'm open to the possibility of Picard being great. It's too early to say yet if it will impact my love of TNG but based on the premiere I don't think so. I think we should revisit this thread after season 1 is complete.

Nope, I'm able to segment things. I can still enjoy a rare decent Kes episode without it being spoiled by the nonsense of her return.

Then again, I don't hold TNG in particularly high esteem anyway. It was great at its best, but a lot of it fell well short of that mark.

I'm afraid of things like giant pythons, or dying alone or suddenly realizing im not wearing any clothes. I'm not afraid of a TV show.

to be more specific, no im not afraid of how it will affect how i used to view TNG.

It’s like those morons on YouTube that shit on anything that’s not TOS. It’s like any new Trek is “raping their childhood”
Don’t like it, don’t watch it. Your TOS DVD’s are still available for you to watch. And in same vein, there is nothing any new show can do to diminish any previous one.
