‘Twin Peaks’ Returns As Showtime Limited Series

Delayed to 2017

Speaking to Baseball Hall of Fame, he (Mark Frost) said: "We had 32 hours back in 1991-92, and with my partner David Lynch we kind of blew open that genre of the nighttime soap and took it in a whole other direction.

"A lot of people always look back at Twin Peaks and say that was the start of this explosion we've had in good television drama, but we did it in a time when there were still only three networks. The challenge for us is to try and come back and raise the bar above what we did the last time.

"We're coming back with season three of Twin Peaks after a 25-year absence. We've finished the scripts, we start production in September, and that will be coming out on Showtime sometime in 2017.

If they're starting production in September, why won't they be on the air until 2017? That's something else that's different from 25 years ago. If you started production in September then, that meant you'd be on the air in October. :rommie:

Ah, well, at least it's happening.

I hope there's a coherent story and he doesn't just make it up as he goes along. Some artists make their work so incomprehensible that they can blame the audience for not "getting it" when in fact there's nothing to get, and they really did just throw paint at the wall, then pretentiously call that the deeper meaning of life.

Not much of Lynch's work is comprehensible on first viewing.

... Or second or third ;)

Or perhaps ever. :)

I agree with the basic thrust of the gist, here.

I finally bit the bullet and watched the show on Netflix last month. Easily one of the weirdest experiences ever.

It was good through the middle of Season 2, but after the killer/Bob story reached its conclusion, the show just went off the rails. I'm still trying to figure out why Nadine's character even exists; her whole post-coma age regression storyline serves no purpose.

I'm still struggling with getting through the last few episodes. It doesn't get any better, huh?

No, and in fact, the finale was easily one of the most boring episodes of any show I've ever seen. It had a neat idea, but it was horrendously directed.

The very end of the last episode works (for me) dramatically, but up to that point the last half of season two is a forgettable blur.

The main problem with the last episode is that it's only about 10 minutes of story stretched out over 45. The whole thing just draaaaaaaags.

Yup. They certainly should have ended it post-Bob storyline closure.

So, I've never seen Twin Peaks. LOST is just about my favorite tv show ever, and X-Files is in my top ten. I just watched the pilot... and it was... not good. The first thirty minute was nothing but a bunch of people sobbing because some girl died. The main character doesn't appear until 36 minutes in. There wasn't a single interesting thing in the 90 minute pilot. Nothing intriguing or mysterious beyond some girl dying. And it was so 80s with the goofy electronic soundtrack. I really don't get it.

I would suggest watching Blue Velvet or Wild at Heart, and/or Mulholland Drive. If you dislike those movies then Twin Peaks would definitely not be for you.

There's little chance you'll "get" the rest of the series in that case.

David Lynch isn't for everyone.

Well I've read elsewhere that nothing happens until episode 3, is that right? I could try a couple more...

Curious narrative choice to make such a bland pilot that suggests nothing of the actual story. LOST was a vague mystery but at least there was an invisible dinosaur stomping around by the end of act one, y'know?

I was hooked from the opening scene. If you think nothing of consequence happened (besides you know, characters being introduced and world building) then I'll reiterate what I said before: this show is not for you.

David Lynch is much closer to Peter Greenaway than JJ Abrams. His work is always slow-paced, heavy on visual symbolism and dream imagery. It is something that requires active engagement on the part of the viewer, and sometimes multiple viewings, to understand.

Mr. Light, did you watch any of Hannibal? Take the weird imagery and symbolism and oddities, multiply it by 100, and you have Twin Peaks. :D
