‘Twin Peaks’ Returns As Showtime Limited Series

#sadface. I'd just introduced students to TP (many of them found it fascinating) in hope they might watch the sequel.

Wow.

So now I know how an 8 year old would feel if he was told his dog was hit by a car, then a few minutes later the dog ran into the room and jumped on him.

A few minutes? More like a month of mourning the loss, only then to have him run into the room.

Well, my interest is back up :D

Groovy. I hope they get some of the original actresses back and don't just replace them all with twenty-year olds.

Remember how it was supposed to be a 9-episode limited series? (And if you forgot that, go back and click the link in the first post.)

Well the news gets even better:

David will direct the whole thing which will total more than the originally announced nine hours. Preproduction starts now!

Who knows if that means we'll get a dozen episodes, or if just the premiere or finale will get an extra 30 minutes, but its obviously good news.

Taking all your toys and going home when you don't get what you want is always a good negotiating tactic when you're prepared to carry through and your playmates want it badly enough. Yes, I think that's all it was. And Harry Shearer too.

I hope Lynch really lets loose and gives us something on par with the movie that's just really out there, but also in the spirit of what Twin Peaks is.

I think they would need to have both characters from the original series and new high school girls.

I am looking forward to meeting the 24 year old Deputy Andy Brennan, Jr.

Oh wow, that's crazy that the kid the two had will now be old enough to be a Deputy!

I mean OK, not so crazy. But still, it's just insane that we're revisiting this show 25 years later.

Also we never found out the biological father. We could have Andy pushing him into law enforcement but he's only interested in fine champagne.

I hope not. The movie was set in the same universe but seemed very divorced from the show in many respects.

We have a unique opportunity here, something that, to the best of my recollection, no TV ever had: a built in, in continuity, reason for picking up the series itself decades later. The original show had Laura say "I will see you again in 25 years." It's 25 years later. That means Twin Peaks can-and should-pick up as if its the same show, only the cast is older and time has passed. In a way, it could be the SF/Fantasy TV version of "Boyhood" if done right.

I hope there's a coherent story and he doesn't just make it up as he goes along. Some artists make their work so incomprehensible that they can blame the audience for not "getting it" when in fact there's nothing to get, and they really did just throw paint at the wall, then pretentiously call that the deeper meaning of life.
