Btw, as to "the old costume looked like underwear", well, maybe you've noticed in MoS how the suit Superman wears is basically what Jor-El and Zod wore underneath their armor, so, the MoS suit was literally Kryptonian underwear.

"Literally"? I would say not. What he was wearing was the basic Kryptonian uniform that they could later strap armor onto if they wished-- a basic uniform that we also saw Jor-El and Zod wearing for portions of the film as well (even while in battle).

It's like saying a soldier who doesn't have all his gear and equipment on is only wearing "underwear".

^^Too bad, then, that they won't actually let him look like Superman.

He does looks like Superman. A more modernised and less laughable Superman, but nonetheless Superman.

I think you're missing the point though. Granted the entire costume may function as Kryptonian underwear, but to humans it does not look like underwear, however his red trunks do look like underwear and look very out of place. Maybe it was alright in the 1930s but not in the 2010s. They did try the red trunks in Superman Returns and as a result they look worse than when they did on Reeves, plus the S shaped belt buckle was unnecessary. And Goyer and whoever else was involved in MOS did actually state they tried to use red trunks to give the suit the most traditional look possible while looking serious and fitting in tone with the rest of the film, but they couldn't find a way. Heck, even in the comicbooks now Batman and Superman don't wear trunks anymore, they just look too laughable.

I'm going to be controversial here and say I really like this suit. I don't think Cage in the suit is good (although I can think of worse people plus I understand why he was picked, to give a more alien and otherworldly feel. He probably could have done that okay, would have fitted in with the feel the film was aiming for. If nothing else it would have been a laugh. ;) ). But I really like the suit, it's sure better than the Reeves and Returns suit. Plus this actually makes the red trunks look okay, quite cool actually. Especially seeing this was made in the late 90s or early 00s. Imagine it in colour and with Cavil in it, then your mind may change and you lot may like it. ;)

We dodged a bullet with that Burton/Cage crap...I'll try to be appreciative of that fact going into the next one.

No, he looks like Superman - that's an undeniable fact.

The Reeve costume looks more like a budget child's Halloween costume you can pick up at Wal Mart for $5.99 - way to cling to that.

I think the main point trying to be made is that the costume could still be modernized and updated without having to rely on nonsensical textures and whatnot.

I don't think anyone is saying the original costume is good. Iconic, maybe, but certainly not good, or one suitable for modern sensibilities.

I don't see why Supes can't just wear some type of leather or leather-like suit - much like the movie X-Men suits, but colored.

I like his old costume. Its a classic, and I don't need my superheroes to look "realistic". I'm watching a guy fly around punching aliens/robots/villains and defending the Earth. I am not bothered at all by his trunks. That said, I can stand them not being there. Its the personality of the MoS (and new 52) versions of Superman that makes me dislike them, not the costumes (although the MoS costume's texture is pretty weird, it's not really bad).

When it comes to costumes I'm just glad that, trunks or not, Affleck's costume seems more Batman-like than Bale's costume did. We've seen one pic, but it still looks like its captured Batman's look pretty well. It will be...interesting to see if Gadot gets a costume.
