Hmmm. They called Bale "Welsh". Better hope he doesn't read that.
By contrast, Iron Man was little known outside the comics and very unproven on the big screen. And that version of Tony Stark is arguably more infused with Downey's character than the comics' incarnation. I think Bale is easily the best screen Batman to date but I don't think he is as essential to the success of the character as Downey is to that of IM.

Agreed. Bale definitely did a great job in the role, but I don't think he really drove those movies or made them work the same way Downey did with Iron Man.
What made the Nolan movies work was Nolan's commanding style and rich, complex storytelling. They weren't just a vehicle for Bale to do his thing and show off for the camera.

Even in the case of RDJ, I really think super-hero movies are the new James Bond or Doctor Who. As long as you have a good actor who takes over and makes the role his or her own, you can continue to make successful movies (of course the movies themselves have to be good).
Eugh. I like Bloom in the Pirates of the Carribean and Middle Earth movies, but I could not see him as Batman at all.

He's too skinny.

I never thought that Reeve bulked up for Superman. He looks just like an average man in tights.Eugh. I like Bloom in the Pirates of the Carribean and Middle Earth movies, but I could not see him as Batman at all.

So was Christopher Reeve when he was first cast as Superman. Actors bulk up for roles all the time.
Not that I can really see Bloom as Batman . . ..
