‘Superman & Batman’ movie will follow ‘Man of Steel’

Basically, giant toy companies are still stuck in the '50s mentality.
They have always been marketing "action figures" to boys, and "girly" toys for girls.
Can we talk about how ridiculous the golden age Wonder Woman costume is? Basically a 1940s pin-up swimsuit, decorated in iconography of the USA. I'm glad the movie version seems more faithful to WW's supposed roots in Classical culture.

I wonder if that will make the movie better? Sort of how the Unrated version of The Wolverine (2013) is better than the theatrical cut.

I'm willing to bet the R-Rating is for the violence scenes with Batman and not Superman.

It'll still have Jesse Eisenberg as Luthor and that godawful looking Doomsday.. that alone could sink the movie. Otherwise i really like the antagonism of Batman and Superman and i like the visual style of Affleck as Batman.

^ Is Doomsday really that big of a deal? He's not really a character in the strictest sense of the word. More like a plot device used to kill Superman.

Oh c'mon is everyone going to ride Deadpools coat tails?

Funny enough DC's attempts at a cinematic universe started with Green Lantern(Reynold) It was supposed to be lighthearted like Iron Man

and now it's ends with Reynold again.

WB also released an R-Rated version of the Hobbit last year too. Reading the reports, alledgedly the R will come from the Batman fight and branding scenes. So a soft R. The only F-bombs and hard nipples will be coming from the fans.

Haha.

Eh. Feels like hollow marketing to me. Either the violence means something to the story, in which case the Cinema version is apparently being hamstringed for the sake of the kiddies or it's completely superfluous and this is just a ploy to get fans to shell out more money for a 'special' version. Considering this is *Batman* vs. *Superman*, the very definition of popular family heroes, I'm assuming it's door number 2.

^^
Batman and Superman, the charming family story of two men whose parents die a horrific death when they're children leaving them traumatized orphans... :ouch:

Or it could be that this is MPAA we're talking about, The Avengers got an R rating from them initially.

So what this really means is that originally there were probably three extra drops of blood in a scene somewhere, which got re-included in the extended cut, hence rating upgrade...

So... completely superfluous 'special' edition. Like I said.

Well, what could make this rated R?
  • It probably won't be nudity.
  • Neither Batman nor Superman will likely kill any human.
  • Throwing people through buildings does not merit an R rating. (see MoS)
  • Torture of some kind?
  • Brutal Superman/Wonder Woman/Doomsday fight?

My guess is that Batman gets a lot more brutal and violent than we've probably ever seen him before. Which explains all the talk of this being another "controversial" movie like MOS.

What started off as a Superman sequel now has a future cut that's rated R?

To me he's always been on the level of Spider-Man and characters that should be for all ages to enjoy. Not the Lobo's, Deadpool's and Watchmen type characters.
Oh well, our heroes have to grow and change with our cynical, selfish and aging selves I guess, or there's no money or entertainment to be had.

That's what they said in the article. I'm thinking we'll just get a bit more brutality in the Batman fights.
