‘Superman & Batman’ movie will follow ‘Man of Steel’

Somewhat surprisingly, it seems that filming has commenced on this movie. But before you all get excited for shots of Affleck in costume, it's just of a real-life football match, which will double for a match within the film. Metropolis v Gotham teams perhaps?

You know what they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...

Gotham vs Metropolis college ball it looks like, which should be fun. I know it's a new continuity but I kinda like that they're keeping the Pittsburgh Steelers-inspired look; though to be fair is there a better color scheme for Gotham than yellow and black? ;)

^Since it's American (gridiron) football, the term would be "game," not "match."

Generally yeah, though either is fine.

Now it can be told: When I turned in the novelization for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, the nice folks at Warner Bros. told me they were very pleased with how it came out . . . except for one scene which needed a little rewriting:

"You really don't know anything about football, do you, Greg?"

Guilty as charged. :)

Apparently there's not much contact between feet and the ball.

Well, given that there are two different sports called football, it helps to have an easy way to distinguish them, for clarity's sake.

There are headlines everywhere tonight about William Shatner playing Alfred in the movie.

This can't be true. He has so much personality, I don't think its possible to get rid of it. So, he just won't fit in a modern DC superhero movie, where all personality must be left at the door before you start filming :rommie:

*Facepalm*

Is it in any way germane to the story or something which could not be gleaned from the link I posted? Seriously, this OCD-level need you have to show the extent of your knowledge to all and sundry is totally embarrassing. Do you think anyone reading the post really thought this might be a soccer match?

Anyway, if one must be pedantic there are 4 types of football I can think of. Haven't you heard of rugby or Gaelic football?

Do you honestly believe anyone would think that in a big American superhero blockbuster that there would be two major metropolitan cities facing off in a game of soccer?

Gee, come on, it's not like this is actually important. It's a minor issue, I made a minor clarification, and if you want to ignore it, that's fine, because it's minor. It's not worth getting into an argument over.

Someday, yes. A distinct possibility. There are, after all, two pro soccer leagues in real-world North America: MLS and the NASL, with the former having the edge in geographic representation and numbers of active teams at the moment. My home city of Ottawa will be joining the NASL next season.

There's also Australian Football.

All I'm saying is that if someone said to me "Hey, did you see the football match in the new Superman / Batman movie?" my mind would not immediately go to soccer, it would go to North American Football.

You mean either NFL or NCAA-rules football.

Says the Saskatchewan Roughriders fan living in Ottawa... ;-)

For you maybe. I'm a bit of an Anglophile and a soccer fan, so my first thought when someone says football is "which one?".
