    Poll Pike vs Lorca

Personally I really loved the twist itself, I just wish they had kept him the same interesting and complex man and explored how the experience might have changed him over time, instead of suddenly turning him into this one-dimensional, cartoon villain who was simply putting on an act the whole...

    Poll Pike vs Lorca

Tough call, but I'd give the edge to Lorca just because his dark and edgy persona (at least before we learned the truth) was so unique and different from what we were used to in a Trek captain. And it was also just hilarious watching his deadpan reactions to the bubbly Tilly or complete...

News Frakes: Discovery Has “Grown The Beard”

Ha, agreed. I loved TNG but those weren't exactly the deepest or richest characters in Trek history. And most of the development seemed to come simply from the actors relaxing more into their roles over time and letting their own personalities gradually seep in. It's still early, but I think...

News Frakes: Discovery Has “Grown The Beard”

Honestly I've never been as bothered by that aspect. This isn't just some random, below decks officer we're talking about, but a high ranking bridge officer with a unique and infamous history that would naturally make her a key player in a lot of big events. And plus I like seeing that it...

News Frakes: Discovery Has “Grown The Beard”

Yeah that's a good way to put it. It's pretty clear that the trauma of losing her parents combined with growing up as an outsider in an alien and emotionally repressed culture has done quite a number on her. And that's a history that can be a bit hard to identify with at times, since she seems...

    Captain Pike spin off petition

I doubt they would have made such a big deal about the crew remaining onboard to accompany Burnham, if they were all going to transfer back to the Enterprise again later. Seems clear that the show will be following them into the future, which I think is a cool idea. And it would probably...

Spoilers Star Trek: Discovery 2x13 - "Such Sweet Sorrow"

Much more of a setup episode than I was expecting, but still really good. If next season really does follow Michael and the Discovery crew into the distant future, then I think that could be a really fun idea. Especially if it means getting to learn about or interact with a future Starfleet.

    USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

Damn that is one gorgeous bridge. I had to pause and rewind the teaser a few times just to take it all in. One thing I was pleasantly surprised by was just how little they changed the Captain's chair. I was so happy they didn't give us another weird, curvy chair like in the JJ films. Lol

    Captain Pike spin off petition

Eh for me that traditional format was feeling incredibly tired and formulaic even during VOY and ENT (which just makes Orville feel even more stale to me now). And I would not want to see Trek return to that. The only change I would make in a potential Pike series would be to just slow things...

First Official Pic of Ethan Peck in Full Spock Regalia

Love everything except that huge collar. I was fine with that look on Pike's uniform, but somehow it doesn't work nearly as well here.

What were your first thoughts on 'Discovery'?

For me it's the rich characters and unpredictable storytelling that I appreciate most, and which we hadn't really seen since DS9. The fact it's not another formulaic alien-of-the-week show is a huge plus for me. I admit some of the characters did come across pretty cold and unlikable early on...

What were your first thoughts on 'Discovery'?

To me "reboot" would imply that this could be a completely different history and world from what we've seen before. I just prefer to think of it as the same TOS world that has been visually reimagined and updated for modern day audiences.

What were your first thoughts on 'Discovery'?

I wasn't super crazy about the new Klingons, but I loved everything else and thought those first two episodes were intense and thrilling as hell.

    USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

It's only one shot, but so far I'm definitely liking it better than the JJBridge, which now looks way too bright and spotlighty when I watch those movies again. I was also struck by just how small and cramped that bridge looks now compared to all the ones we've seen on DSC. Hard to tell if this...

    Spoilers Episode 13 Promo Trailer

Based on the preview alone I can already tell I'm gonna be rewatching and freeze-framing this episode more than any one before. :D

Spoilers Star Trek: Discovery 2x12 - "Through the Valley of Shadows"

It definitely seems to be setting that up, which would be just mindblowingly cool to see, but I'm a bit afraid to get that excited for it just yet, as it would be SUCH a bold step for the show and I can easily imagine them finding some other last minute solution instead. And then it turns out...

Why won't Spock shave and put on a starfleet uniform?

Honestly I'm kinda used to it by now and think it's a cool look for him. And I think it still fits in well enough with the more unkempt hairstyle we saw in The Cage. Plus he probably just doesn't see the need to shave since he's in more of an advisory role on Discovery right now.

    Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Yeah I agree Stamets and Tilly haven't been used quite as well this season, but I still really enjoy the moments they do have. It seems pretty clear that once Spock came onboard a lot of the sciencey "figuring stuff out" scenes got redirected to him and Burnham, so once he leaves that will...

The Casting of this series is extremely bad

I definitely think DSC could benefit from slowing down a bit and not constantly rushing from one place to the next at top speed, but I still find it a whole lot more engaging to watch than VOY and ENT, which seemed incredibly stale and formulaic to me even back then. And the fact it's a more...

The Casting of this series is extremely bad

Yeah I get that they were supposed to be closer to modern day astronauts than the military officers of Starfleet, but I still would have expected a bit more seriousness and gravitas from someone entrusted with the lives of hundreds of people on an experimental starship.
