I'm guessing Lindelof is out for future sequels

That's kind of the point.

I doubt Paramount dropped mad cash on this sequel and waited for years to do "just fine."

Abrams has already said he will produce the next one if/when there is one.

I cant see Paramount or Bad Robot passing up on putting out a Trek film in 2016. In the States its only been out a couple of days, where as in the UK and everywhere else "internationally" its doing better than the first one did.

Studios are considering the markets outside of the Domestic US which is why they are releasing films like Trek and Iron Man days if not weeks before they do in America. The problem with that is depending on the fan bases and audience their expected viewers will gorge themselves on every spoiler they can and then decide whether to bother, which for me isnt the way to watch films.

I'm surprised this topic hasn't been closed. You're just trolling and trying to scare people <snip>

Paramount Executive: "Oh no! J.J. Abrams has only made us two very profitable films and revitalized a dormant franchise! That's awful! Who do we get for a third film?!"

Whomever Abrams recommends, probably, since Bad Robot will certainly still be producing, even if Abrams is unable (or unwilling) to direct the next film himself.

Star Trek 3 - the directorial debut of Damon Lindelof!

I'd love to see Nick Meyer brought on board to be honest.

I bet he'd love to dabble in this new universe.

Meyer hasn't directed a theatrical film since...okay, other than being employed on Star Trek a couple of times, when did he direct a successful studio theatrical release? Other than Time After Time it's not clear that any of the films he directed during the 1980s turned a profit, and he hasn't directed one at all since ST 6 in 1991. After twenty-plus years he doesn't get to "dabble" with one of Paramount's major franchises; what "he'd love" is not a factor in anyone's plans or calculations.

I'm sorry to have to tell you that your insider friend is an idiot who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing - if that much - and his or her analysis is strictly amateur night.

I'm guessing I'm awesome.

I have no discernible proof, mind, other than a little birdie told me. But it was an awesome birdie.

This thread though? Not awesome.

Plus:  at Nicky Meyer.

If it's not the Dos Equis guy, I'm spending my money elsewhere.

Uwe Boll would be okay too.

A lower budget would suit me just fine.

The best Trek movies were made with budget constraints.

Nick Meyer had to beg and plead to get money for STII and STVI.

Less money on special effects = more attention to a good story and script.

Well I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt on the Troll issue because of this post.

I fully agree with you here: constraints on art are almost always a good thing. I'm not sure what it would mean in terms of audience appeal, though, in the current movie climate. Also, money or not, you need good people involved.

ETA: Yeah, same guy and obviously no insider. Next time re-word it so it isn't so easy to find the original!

I assure you I'm not the same poster. I did find the report interesting, however, and chose to pass it along since I recently found this place.

I need to introduce you to my totally legit, hot wife who is most definitely not me.

If you actually go and read that thread, it's not hard to pick out who I am.

Either way, I don't care. Believe the report or don't. I'm simply passing along an interesting note.

I have a well-connected source in the biz who states:

AbramsIsSatan is actually Rick Berman. After Enterprise's shortcomings he took to drinking and posts in message boards in a sad attempt to regain the mantle that he lost.

He also goes on to say.

Star Trek is going to make almost 200 million worldwide in it's opening weekend. That's more than it's budget.

The quote is interesting, but I skimmed through other posts in that thread by DoucheMcCloud and that individual did not have inside knowledge about Star Trek XII. If you and he are not the same, you should invite him here to join in in some rousing Trek discussion.

Nor did I say he did.

He does have connections in the film industry, though.

I think the Tom Hanks comedy "Volunteers" was a fairly modest success in the late 80s; it was a fairly low budget affair. But as much as I love Myer, he shouldn't be anywhere near the new Trek.
