The Disney Vault

I dont understand why they are releasing a dvd/bluray version of Beauty & the Beast when they plan to release a 3-d version of the film in theaters (for 2011.) Wouldnt it make more sense to keep the film in the vault so the 3-d release will be more anticipated(& then release it on dvd/bluray)?

anyway I already have the first dvd release & I dont see any need for this film to be in 3-d. I did see it when it was released on Imax b/c its not often you get to see older Disney animated film again on the big screen, but I think 3d-fying it is pointless. Hercules, Tarzan or Lion King maybe but not B&B.

Conversely, Disney could be using the DVD to advertise the 3D theatrical run of B&B.

As for the big D's reason for 3d-ifying B&B? It's the 20th anniversary of their most critically successful and arguably most fondly remembered film. From interviews, I get the sense Disney would like to make this an annual event now, to release a 3d version of one of their classics. Of course they're going to start with their "big gun" to see how successful and profitable this can be.

John Lasseter:
"Because with our computers we can go back in. We have all the scenes and all the sets saved. Just like we did with 'Toy Story' and 'Toy Story 2.'"
“We don’t have any plans yet for further 3-D-izing of our older films,” he admitted, “but it’s always a possibility.

So no bluray of Song Of The South comig out soon?

I have come to honestly think that the only way that movie is ever coming back out is through some kind of archival collection that Disney can disassociate themselves from,
I've never heard of

Song of the South (1946) before but I've read the book about the tales of Brer Rabbit.
Yes the film would be politically incorrect that even though it won major awards.
Year Result Award Category/Recipient(s)
1948 Won Oscar Best Music, Original Song
Allie Wrubel (music)
Ray Gilbert (lyrics)

For the song "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah".
Nominated Oscar Best Music, Scoring of a Musical Picture
Daniele Amfitheatrof
Paul J. Smith
Charles Wolcott

we won't be seeing it.
It looks like the whole thing is on youtube for those who have an interest in seeing it.

It's no worse than some of the old Looney Toones cartoons. Like this scene from Southern Fried Rabbit.

^I remember when I was a kid Id watch Tom & Jerry reruns in syndication in the afternoons, those were full of racist stuff like that, like the black maid & characters getting blackfaced when something would explode on them. Im gonna assume all that has since been edited out since?
