A "lady of the night" asked me out

Why would it be rich?

I'm not talking about a job as a cashier, office jobs or anything like that.

Sex is a very vital part of a relationship and for most people it's an exclusive part of the relationship. Most people break up when the partner has slept with someone else so i don't believe it's a secondary part of the relationship open to compromise.

It is a very difficult topic but as i said it's best to bring it up now when a split or remaining friends without too much pain is entire possible. Finding out she won't look for a new career after you have fallen in love could perhaps cause ongoing pain which could be avoided if things had been talked about in advance and everybody knows where they stand on the issue.

I never said to expect to give up her job.. she wouldn't have to if he can handle it (doubtful) but it's best she knows he wouldn't be able to handle it and the only solution would be a career change for her if she is indeed serious about him.
That's not 1950s "My woman doesn't work!" style macho behaviour but a real issue.

If she doesn't want to change careers and he can't handle it then shake hands and remain friends, she is a person after all with whom you could hang out, go to the movies or simply talk.. it will just end there and not go further for the benefit of them both.

Any partner asking a would be SO to give up their job should be making considerably more and be willing to carry the slack if there's a break up.

FPAlpha, I wasn't actually having a go at you. I was more talking about how you (the generic 'you') can't walk into someone's life and say, "well, I'm here now, and you have to change everything". Especially in this liberated age. :)

I agree, they do need to have that conversation, sooner rather than later.

When I was 18 I dated a girl who sold herself off for drugs and I didn't freak then, certainly different circumstances though. One guy is like "the worst that can happen is she still believes you're rich".

Hey, if STDs, AIDS and knowing your "lady" screws other guys professionally hasn't been a turn-off thus far... I say go for it. I hope your insurance is paid up.

One thing i don't see mentioned is.. could you handle the fact that she sleeps with men for money?

Look at it this way. Do any of those guys actually love her? Do they buy her flowers, take her out for a nice meal, comfort her when she's feeling sad, listen to how her day went, that type of thing?

Does she enjoy sex with those men? That's just work. She can come home to a husband or boyfriend, and love that person, I should think.

How was your day at work last night, honey?

Well dear, there were B.J.s with a couple of leaking guys, a 3 way with the yeasty one in the next cubicle, and 2 guys wanted that thing they don't even have a name for yet. :barf:

Pass.

Good to know all that stuff about Trekkies being nerds with immature attitudes towards sex isn't just unfair stereotyping!

It's actually quite unlikely that a professional prostitute will have any STDs. Stats say the average person is more likely to have them.

As for the OP, if you're interested then you should go for it. I don't think I could manage in such a relationship, but there's nothing wrong with it.

It might have been an un-gentlemanlike comment but the core statement is correct.

Could any one of you push the knowledge away that when she comes home from work she has slept with several men? And could you, if you're horny, then have sex with her (provided she's in the mood at all after having sex all day)?

That's the problem i see.. she could be a stripper (i understand that in most establishments touching the stripper is a big no), Dominatrix (as far as i know Sex and anything coming close to it like blowjobs is also not the norm) or clean houses half naked and it wouldn't be that big of a problem but having actual sex is just crossing a border.

If he can deal with it then he has my respect.. that takes true commitment and an openness that i lack. But, once again, there should be an understanding before the relationship progresses any further as to where they stand on the issue. Nobody will be happy if he "accepts" it officially as her job but is dying inside a little each time she leaves for work or if she assumes he's ok with it because he didn't tell her he isn't for fear of losing her.

That can only lead to desaster down the road.

Oh, I'm chill. I think, in regard to sex, you might want to take that pill yourself -- that was kinda the point.

Whether one is cool with being in a relationship with a sex worker is a totally personal matter, and as long as their reasons are legit to them, that's fine. What is not just "ungentlemanly" but totally immature, is the "OMG she's a hoooooker, BARF" bullshit.

I actually know a fair few sex workers, and most of them have significant others. A lot of people don't have any problem at all distinguishing their partner's job from their personal life.

No word from her yet, guys. I feel that she either changed her mind mid-way and didn't want to say anything, or changed her mind when she got home. I guess there's the possibility that she's just really really busy, but yeah.

I'm not 100% certain how I'd go I such a relationship however sex isn't a big deal to me, I'm not all that interested in it. I guess I could see me getting a bit jealous.

Oh, and I'm 31. I thought you guys might think I'm 50 or something. These girls (who I almost always see these girls for cuddle buddies or a Gfe, but half the time I actually get pressured for sex. They claim to genuinely like it and 9 times out of 10 you notice a huge personality difference where I feel it's them dropping their act.
