I hear Kate Mulgrew is up for an emmy, do you think they would be able to get her?
Only if Chak and Harry take a pay cut.

Christopher Bennet on the Lit forum suggested that there could be reboots for TNG, DS9 and Voyager after the third and possibly last TOS reboot movies. So this is just a theory, no hard evidence, but as Christopher points out, shared universe movies have become hugely popular with Marvel comics heroes, and Star Wars is set to begin releasing a movie every year.
So hypothetically, we could have movies coming out with reboots of TNG, DS9 and Voyager, one of them every three years. I'd prefer to just use the original cast and continue their adventures, but at this point, reboots seem much more likely. I'd be pretty excited to get more Trek, and as I've enjoyed the recent Reboot movies, this sounds pretty exciting as a possibility. There is a rumor that a young Deanna Troi was being cast in the third JJ Trek movie, so this isn't completely unfounded speculation.
Which makes me wonder how this would work, what actors could play these beloved parts, what would be different, what would be the same. The recent movies made a bold move in destroying Vulcan, so any future continuing from that would be potentially different from the original version.
I'm posting this in both the Voyager and DS9 forums, as this is relevant to both.
The Mirror Universe had the same characters as DS9 despite the differences in their histories. It's common place to do that in alternate timelines because it makes a better story. If a Voyager reboot gets made or not won't have anything to do with the logic of the same characters being in the two different universe in similar roles. The same crew was on the Enterprise of the JJ reboot despite their different histories.

"Pulling in punters who are Trek fans or aren't" can be a risky operation.
It's like certain rock bands who abandon their original style and adapt to something trendy in order to gain more fans. Mostly the outcome is that they lose their old, loyal fans who see them as sell-outs and don't gain any new fans for long either since those new trendy fans see them as something temprarily interesting and then move on to some other trendy stuff.

Oh sure but the bean counters don't care about loyalty, they want the cash. Star Trek is a business like anything else so chasing the dollar will eternally be a priority over creative satisfaction, or staying true to the past.
Personally I like the new direction so right now I feel they're having their cake & eating it, but we now live in an age where nothing is sacred I'm afraid.
They might lose the loyal fans, I mean people like most of the people on this forum and the new ones they gain might abandon Trek as soon as some new trendy thing show up.
I can just imagine... all the crew being at the Academy at the same time regardless of their ages, lots of pointless explosions, one-liners, soap opera angst in the middle of serious missions (crewmen telling the Captain to shut up while they continue bickering), gratuitous underwear scenes, and Janeway reduced to a puppy-toting "Legally Blonde" type of character. To me, a reboot should be a chance to show a very different timeline with a lot of changes and new possibilities. If it's the JJverse, it's hard to believe that all the same characters will all be born, be the same ages, join Starfleet at the same time, and all be posted to that very same ship, and then sent on the same mission as their "Prime" universe counterparts.
