I swear if that scene ends with Batman about to kill a bloodied Superman only to be stopped by the (surprise!) appearance of Wonder Woman, I will walk out of the theater. Batman is awesome and all, but after what Superman was shown to do in Man of Steel, how does Batman not get his ass kicked? Even if his armor is made out of the debris of the Kryptonian ships? Superman flew straight through one of them from beneath a planet-altering gravity beam after he was weakened from the atmosphere around him being terraformed (Kryptoformed?). Seriously, how does this fight last longer than five seconds in the context of Man of Steel?

I had to get that off my chest. Feel free to ignore this post. My rant is over. :techman:

^Well, in The Dark Knight Returns, which is what they're heavily influenced by, Batman was able to have a chance against Superman because Clark was still weak from being caught in a nuclear explosion, plus he'd been hit by a kryptonite arrow. So Batman in his Hulkbuster armor (so to speak) was thus able to get a few good licks in, but still lost -- and had never intended to win, since that just wasn't on the table even against a weakened Superman.

So given how heavily they seem to be drawing on that story, right down to the damn Groucho-mustache bat-emblem, I'd be surprised if they had Batman prevail.

How did it last longer than that in TDKR? There's a clear answer: On top of all the other factors, Superman held back on purpose.

Because Batman had enough time to prepare.

It last long in TDKR because it was a Batman book written by Frank Miller. Batman was always going to prevail. However in Superman books that feature combat with Batman, Superman and other Kryptonians (Supergirl, Zod, Faora etc) always neg diff Bats.

Also someone posted a cell phone video of the clip.

DC knows Batman is by far the more popular of the two right now and this sequence will probably be treated more as a WWE showdown due to that fact.

I was talking to a co-worker, who is an admitted huge Batman fan, about Man of Steel after it debuted and he told me that he realized Batman would have died a thousand times over in the fight against Zod. Not helping Lois or the military but in the fist fight with Zod. And this is essentially what we have here, except replace Zod with an armored Batman.

Again, Batman is cool. He tells a different type of superhero story, Superman tells another. Having them together is a great idea, full of wonderful storytelling potential. This sequence in the movie has all kinds of potential to "jump the shark" for me and this teaser isn't exactly making me optimistic.

Goddamn. Even from a crappy cellphone video, that scene gave me chills.

Although I do hope the entire movie won't just be made up of cool, moody images like this. I though that style worked worked great in MOS, to introduce Superman and this world. But by this point I think we need a much more plot and dialogue driven story, along the lines of TDK or the Marvel movies.

    Anyone saved this?

As for how that fight could go, remember what Snyder said about it last year?

Everyone's focusing on the Batman side and treating Superman as a constant. As I said, in TDKR, it wasn't just a matter of Batman's power and durability being increased by the suit -- it was a matter of Superman's power being reduced to a fraction of its normal level before the fight even began. So there's no reason the movie couldn't do the same, couldn't have Superman severely weakened somehow before the confrontation.

Then again, sequels generally try to top their predecessors, don't they? So I guess they could go in the other direction, and I agree, that would be lame. If they have Batman start knocking down skyscrapers with that armor suit, I'm outta there.

There was talk of Krytonite in the movie and Superman was weakened in MOS and Batman has been around for a while. So, it's possible that Bruce found a possible way to weaken Superman, he'd be ratehr crazy to go against a full powered Superman.

He could be weaker than normal, but in the clip Superman still has the power of flight and heat vision. There were no obvious signs of weakness, but it was just a brief glimpse.

Marvel cannot do that, so they have to transform a male character (Thor) into a woman, instead of creating an independent, top level female character. So much for Marvel's overstated progressive creations.

In the context of the movie that started this universe, Man of Steel, a Superman being subjected to an environment that can completely depower him was still able to fly through a planet mass altering gravity beam and then fly through a Kryptonian spaceship. If Batman builds his armor of the Krytonian debris, it's pretty much like building it out of anything else on Earth. Superman will be able to punch straight through it. Or slice through it with his heat vision, just like he did with the Kryptonian armor in the Smallville fight in Man of Steel.

Maybe Superman doesn't fight at full strength, either by choice or because he's weakened. The reports of the people in the room of the teaser trailer say that Superman looks pissed off when his eyes start glowing. A pissed off Superman probably won't hold back. Maybe he does. I just don't think it matters from what Man of Steel showed us Superman can do.

Again, I want this movie to work. I even thought the cell phone video of the teaser trailer was awesome, just like everyone else! It's the fight that bothers me. I don't think DC would tease a fight this entire time and then not actually have one or have it be brief. So they are going to fight and fight for a while. I hope I'm completely surprised and it doesn't ruin the movie for me because of all the things that could, this is it. Strange as it seems, this is it.

    You're welcome. :)

Yeah, as brief a teaser as it was, it was pretty damn awesome.

My first impulse is to say that Superman would always hold back when dealing with a normal human, because he has an inviolable moral code.

But then I remembered we're talking about Zack Snyder's neck-snapping, bystander-ignoring Superman, so who can say?

Yeah the head he snapped was a Krytonian one and he did it saving bystanders. Clark went out his way not to get into any fights with humans in MOS, if you actaully remember.

Unlike the Reeve Superman who beat up the trucker when he got his powers back (sure, he "held back" but still took on the guy--Cavil's Superman took his frustration out on the truck instead).
