Do you watch TNG movies?

I would say that action is a needed part of modern movies, and even back then the lack of action was only forgiven due to the audience understanding the limitations of technology back then.

A story like 2001 done in exactly the same way could never become a hit nowadays.

With that said however, action should be something that flows naturally from a well made story.

Just look to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight for 2 excellent examples of this.

Wow you think Generations was better than BOBW?
I was watching BOBW for the first time on Blu-Ray, and my dad sat down to watch. He didn't know I had bought the S3 and S4 sets.

He thought I was watching First Contact He was waiting for Picard to show up with the Tommy Gun.

That's how good BOBW was.

Time's Arrow was a kick ass two parter!!! What's wrong with you? slightly better than Time's Arrow? How about 10 levels worse? They should have just remade Time's Arrow with the budget they wasted on Generations.

Yes, even First Contact feels like this. I can only take so much of someone hitting a jukebox and it staring to blast "Oh Ooby Dooby!!"

I can`t say I agree for my own personal tastes. for me, some of the best sci-fi that has come out lately are Moon and Sunshine.

 

Storywise, no, but it had much better production values.

I think Time's Arrow would have been an excellent episode on which to base a movie on.

Those aliens seemed pretty powerful to me, and it seemed strange to me that, being caught with their pants down like that, they wouldn't seek some type of revenge.

 

Seen them once each. Never bothered again since and likely never will.

I've seen the TOS films each a number of times over the years, but only the first two can still hold me. TVH is the worst of the six.

 

I've seen First Contact so many times that I don't feel the need to watch it again for a while. It's been a while for Generations and Nemesis, but I'd be open to seeing them again if I didn't have anything else going on. Never mind about Insurrection. I have no interest in seeing it again.

 

I go against the grain and actually quite like generations, yes it's a silly story but the cinematography is top drawer. I also don't have much of a problem with insurrection, just treat it mentally like a 2 part TNG episode and it stands up pretty well. FC is often on TV so I'll catch it when it's on.

As far as I'm concerned Nemesis doesn't exist, to the point where I don't personally consider it canon.

STVI:TUC is my favourite trek movie though. I agree with what people have said in that the first 6 movies feel more special, something about them just works well on the big screen.

What annoys me about the TNG movies is that the characters are all different, notably Picard. He goes from this measured, diplomatic man, to action hero Picard (mostly at Stewarts own request as I understand it), and it just doesn't work. There's also the issue of having a lot of characters to service on screen, Everyone has to be given something to do and thats a lot of people to keep busy for a movie. The original movies stuck mostly either to the Kirk/Spock/McCoy triage or a small subset of characters, and that worked much better from a story POV.

 

I can't watch the TNG movies. They're terrible. As much as I loved the TV series, the movies are heartless and stiff. The acting is very artificial and there is no rhythm to the direction.

 

I didn't mind that, but writers' character motivation for his becoming a physicist -- "for the money" -- left me scratching my head.

That said. I think I might watch them. Haven't seem any of 'em in ages.

I wish I could...but I just don't see it happening.

Moreso with the final two films, but I get the same feeling with those that I'd get from visiting an uncle or someone in a nursing home, watching them slowly die.

Didn't anyone in production realize the tone of these movies?!

Every unused clip form these movies that I've seen...EVERY SINGLE ONE...is exactly the sort of material that should have stayed in. It's almost like it was intentional.

 

I never watch the TNG films. Had "Star Trek" not been in the titles I never would have watched them in the first place.

I will watch all TNG movies, but the one that gets the most repeated viewings from me is Nemesis, my favorite of the TNG films (despite its many flaws).

 

I'm about due to jab a rusty fork in my eye. Nemesis would likely give me the same result!

 

Sometimes I feel that the movies were written for the Voyager cast, but substituted with TNG characters. Particularly Insurrection.

I watch the TNG films much less than the rest, because they're just not as fun as the TOS ones for me, or as entertaining.

NEM, despite being distinctly average, I sometimes have on as background noise. The one I prefer watching most is FC, as it's TNG's best movie effort before GEN.

 

I don't really watch movies, so no. Thanks you for asking though. I remember liking Insurrection because it was like the show, and not just action heroes and dune buggies, and it had an ethical dilemma.

 

For me it's not as cut and dry as "I watch TOS films but don't watch TNG films." There are films in each group that I get more excited about than others - in the TOS era, TNG era and the ongoing reboot era as well.
