I've been enjoying the World Cup so much I hardly registered Wimbledon was even happening (and I'd rather he'd beaten Federer), but good for Krygios. It's a shame he's from the biggest hole in the country but there's nothing to be done about that. Now wait for him to be submerged under the (7-led) media hype (has that utter prick McAvaney proclaimed him to be "special" yet? ) and crushed by ludicrous expectation at next year's Oz Open. I feel sorry for him already.
I just noticed there is a pack of Winfield in this video.. it was weird because as soon as I noticed it I had a flashback to what a Winfield tasted like (I assume they taste different now that the packs are covered with huge photos of cancerous eyes and no longer Holden blue.) Do they still make Escort Reds? Remember they use to be the in brand for young smokers due to their low cost compared to other brands (and at the other end you of the scale was Dunhill) And wasn't Winfield the brand Paul Hogan promo'ed? Anyhow, have a winfield.
It wouldn't be a thread about something involving Australia if Orac Zen didn't call Canberra a shit hole. I have not heard one thing said about Kyrgios that wasn't said about Tomic back in 2010/2011. The Australian sporting public is quick to love, just as quick to hate, and very slow to forgive.
Yeah I think that was Hogan's brand. I have no idea what the brands are now since all the packets look like this: They can't be displayed either, they are in locked opaque cases you have to get the checkout person to open. I'm going to assume brand loyalty is taking a major dive and people are only buying on price
one of the arguments against the plain packaging for cigarettes in Australia was how would people know which ones to buy? Not sure about Alberta but in Ontario any shop that I've been into that sells smokes has had them hidden away under fold down shelves so you can't see them. People just go in and ask for their brand (so the effect was if the packages were plain). Shows how stupid the anti-plain packaging arguments were.
Alberta still has the branded packaging, actually (plus the vivid photography) but otherwise the same arrangement.
You mean it's not a shit hole? Then again I lived most of my life in Adelaide and last time I was in Canberra was December 1985) It depends on what it's some berk in the media shooting his or her mouth off or whether it's some-one who might actually no what he's talking about. Though if Kyrgios doesn't turn into another Tomic that can only be a good thing. Perhaps he can be another Pat Rafter. Btw is ch9 still the rights holder for Wimbledon?
I remember schoolkids buying Viscount 10s. That's right, 10 cigs in a small packet. That wasn't aimed at schoolkids at all, nope, no siree...
Ah, Australia, nature's final boss level. A friend of mine ended up going over there to marry his internet girlfriend. Dude was a total redneck and sent back pictures of him hunting 'roos and some 'roo jerkey. It's a shame I never got to go over there. Perhaps I'll get to after I get my degree.
I've had roo salami, but not jerky. He should go hunt feral pigs, apparently they do it from helicopters
My cousin Mike moved to the Prison Island about 6 years ago. Haven't heard from him since. I hope he's doing ok. He used to hang out on the Official Site.
What if it's both? As in ex-Tennis players who do the commentary. Part of the problem is that tennis needs a big star in Australia and both the media and those involved push quite hard at the first signs that person has come. Hopefully Kyrgios will be more Rafter than Tomic. Hopefully Tomic won't be a new Poo and squander his talents. No, 7 now has the rights to go with the Aus Open. They might have the rights to all the majors.
Just telling it like it is, Jono. True enough, unfortunately. Happily Kyrgios - so far at least - doesn't seem to have Tomic's bloated ego, overweening sense of self-importance or (mercifully for everyone) a dickhead parent throwing his / her weight around. That automatically puts him several steps ahead.
*pokes head in* Hello, fellow aussies. There is still taste to go on. I could save money and go cheap and nasty, but if I'm goning to kill myself I figure I might as well enjoy it.
That's... a lot less than I expected. 2 years 10 months. During the case I was really hesitant to consider him guilty. A lot of it didn't make sense. Then guilty on all 12 charges - there's got to be something there. A rare case where I'll admit I might have been wrong. That is a pathetic sentence. I know they had to take into consideration his age and his illness... but he's really gotten away with it if that's the end of it.
