There's also the fact that The Asylum did an
Atlantic Rim DVD mockbuster already back when
Pacific Rim came out. I think the last thing the authentic franchise would want to do was follow the lead of the people who shamelessly ripped them off.
And, of course, there are actually no more disappearances in the so-called Bermuda Triangle than there are over any comparable area of the Earth's sea or land surface. It's just that one or two of them in that area happened to get a lot of publicity, and thus later disappearances in that area got more attention than disappearances elsewhere.
Anyway, not only a movie sequel but an animated series? That's kinda perfect. I wonder who'll produce the cartoon.
