They're actually working on 'Pacific Rim 2'

I enjoyed the first film for what it was. I'd rather get Hellboy 3 than Pacific Rim 2, but if it's true to the atmosphere established by the first film, I could see it being another fun ride.

Was not expecting to see Ron Perlman...I think I almost cheered when that happened. :)

I hope that when this comes to fruition, it'll be a more logically thought out movie than the first. Ex. the issue of why Gipsy Danger's sword wasn't used more often.

Pacific Rim wasn't trying to be logical. It was trying to pay homage to the conventions of its genre. It's part of the long tradition of movies and TV shows about giant robots fighting kaiju that they don't pull out their biggest weapon until the fight reaches its climax. Logic has nothing to do with that.

Agreed. When "Let's build a giant wall" is on the table logic is off the table.

I thought it was great. My kids love it. I'm jealous - I wish I'd seen it at their age.

Maybe now I'll be able to pick up a Gipsy Danger without paying ebay prices.

Still kick myself for not getting one when they were on shelves before the film came out.

I always thought the sequel should be the aliens coming coming through the Bermuda triangle and invovle the Atlantic ocean. All the disappearances of ships in there being from them trying to open a portal and since it's not as deep as the Mariana trench the effects were more visible/evident.

The world has most of their defenses/response for threats from the Pacific ocean.

Plus it lets you then have giant aliens coming thru NY, Washington, Rio, London, Paris, etc...

Interesting idea, and as a former New Yorker I'm always up for watching the city get destroyed, but I do have a couple of concerns:

1) New York, at least, being attacked is a cliche. One thing I liked about Pacific Rim was that it dealt with a lesser-seen part of the world.

2) Godzilla kind of just did the retconning of historical events as a threat-response.

There's also the fact that The Asylum did an Atlantic Rim DVD mockbuster already back when Pacific Rim came out. I think the last thing the authentic franchise would want to do was follow the lead of the people who shamelessly ripped them off.

And, of course, there are actually no more disappearances in the so-called Bermuda Triangle than there are over any comparable area of the Earth's sea or land surface. It's just that one or two of them in that area happened to get a lot of publicity, and thus later disappearances in that area got more attention than disappearances elsewhere.

Anyway, not only a movie sequel but an animated series? That's kinda perfect. I wonder who'll produce the cartoon. The original film was produced when Legendary Pictures was in partnership with Warner Bros., who as we know has one hell of a TV animation division, but as of this year LP has switched production partners to Universal, whose TV animation output is... more hit and miss.

In all honesty, I probably am more interested in the animated series than I am in the new movie.

I would hope they do some kind of major merchandising...this just seems perfect for pre-teens to have as toys.

Also, it'd be nice if they did NOT kill all of their Jaeger pilots. It'd be nice to have some others still survive. Also, seems perfect for a video game too, where people can create their own...maybe even have it featured somewhere.

Why doesn't "The Asylum" just fucking die already. I saw "American Warships" and I was :cardie:

It was trying to mockbuster "Battleship", a movie that was already pretty bad, but with about 20 times less budget :guffaw:

Last time I ever see an "Asylum" flick.

Actually, a few months ago I watched about 40 minutes of American Warships on TV during a work break, and actually found it surprisingly entertaining. Yes, it's unbelievably corny, but it held my interest more than some actual Hollywood movies do these days.

Woot! Greenlit for 2017!
What joyous news! ... There is so much unplumbed thematic and emotional depth left to mine in this saga of huge robots punching huge alien monsters. Perhaps in this installment, we'll get the touching, life-affirming story of a Jaeger and a Kaiju, sworn enemies by birth, instantly and irrevocably falling in love. They could frolic in tropical atolls, recite sonnets and sing alien havest festival songs by the light of the moon... but perhaps the beastie always felt trapped in the wrong gender's body, and decides to perform self-surgery with the mecha's sword! Will their forbidden love survive?!

And it would still be 10 times better than any Michael Bay film..

You know, that's a movie I think I'd enjoy!
