Season SIX OFFICIAL TNG Blu-Ray Discussion Thread

What are your top 5 episodes of the 6th season?

My memory's a little rusty, since I've been avoiding watching this season for a while, but I'm going to give it a go.

1. Chain of Command I & II
An epic two parter that worked on multiple levels. One of Patrick's Stewart's finest performances. And we also have two great guest stars in this one—Ronny Cox's "Jellico" and David Warner's truly creepy "Gul Madred." Trek at its best. Will buy the movie version too if I can get it at a decent price.

2. Frame of Mind
Wow. Like Star Trek crossed with Philip K. Dick. It's that good. This is the finest performance by Jonathan Frakes, imho, in the whole show. He's good in other episodes, but after seeing this I wished they'd stretched him more often. "You BET I'm agitated!"

3. Timescape
Picard drawing a happy face in a nearly frozen warp-core explosion. And then he laughs madly. Enough said. Great episode.

4. A Fistful of Datas
Star Trek's second homage to a classic Western (TOS had Spectre of the Gun), nicely directed by Patrick Stewart. Classic Data and Worf episode.

5. Relics.
A fond farewell to Commander Scott....

1. The Chase-A no-brainer really. Fantastic in every respect. Seminal even.

2. Tapestry-More than I thought we'd ever see about Picard's backstory. Nicely executed.

3. Birthright PtI- One of the most ethereal episodes, with a great discovery for Data.

4. Relics- One of the better reintroductions of a Trek actor from another series. Plus..Dyson sphere. It has to be good.

5. Schisms- One of the few really suspenseful STNG stories.

Lots of good ones though. Timescape is right up there. Frame of Mind. Chain of Command. Even Time's Arrow is one of the better second parts of STNG two-parters.

My top five list (in no particular order):
Chain of command
Relics
Chase
Timescape
Descent

Honorable mentions:
Suspicions
Birthright part 1

ahh so hard to select just 5. I think S6 is really a good season.

Deep Space Nine looks absolutely beautiful in HD. I think the long wait in between seasons has helped me gain a deeper appreciation for this project because my anticipation just went back up to season 1 levels. Can't wait until I get this and Chain of Command.

Just wait until you see the Replimat in HD! The colors are GORGEOUS :bolian:

The wait has definitely made me anxious to revisit this season in HD. That screencap comparison with Scotty on the original Enterprise is another great example of how vibrant the show can look when taken out of the realm of SD video.

Any chance there's a trailer for the seventh season on the set or will we wait later like for S6's?

Nope, the S7 trailer hasn't been done yet. CBS-D are just wrapping up S7 now.

Thanks for the review. I'd say I can't wait but since I've barely started S2 that wouldn't really be true. Not for lack of wanting to though. There just aren't enough hours in the day to get everything I want done!

Did you mean "...wrapping up S6 now."?

Did you mean "...wrapping up S6 now."?

I'd sure hope not, since S6 is supposed to hit the streets in 2 weeks. S6 should have been wrapped up months ago, pressed to disc, packaged, and is likely now in the process of being shipped to retailers.

S7 would need to be wrapped relatively soon, for the same to happen and be released by the end of the year.

Correct. S6 was finished ages ago. S7 will be done in a matter of weeks.

...and many good people at CBS-D will lose their jobs if the remastering of DS9 is not commissioned by then, I guess. That sucks!

The time is perfect for CBS to move now. If they waste this golden opportunity to plug DS9-HD when interest is at an all-time high, they'll miss that window.

Why bother showing off the Birthright footage at all if nothing is being planned? I think we'll be hearing something very soon.

Who's to say it hasn't already been worked out, and will be underway shortly but they're keeping quiet?

Sorry jimbotron, I feel obliged to set you straight. There are NO plans to start DS9 any time soon.

Thanks for clarifying. You wrote your answer to explain why the S7 trailer isn't ready. If S7 is nearly finished, I would think they could produce a trailer now, but I guess I'm wrong.
