Season SIX OFFICIAL TNG Blu-Ray Discussion Thread

A common ploy at the larger stores is to mark up the price on the item, and then "discount" it to the normal retail price and advertise it as a sale. I've seen that firsthand when buying appliances. Also, avoid liquidation sales, because the prices are often increased, not decreased.

I saw a TV news programme that exposed this scam once, so it definitely happens. I guess they're hoping for gullible consumers who are without the ability (or who simply don't bother) to check what the RRP of an item actually is, and who take "Maked Down For Sale" at face value.

It's been pushed back to July 21 for the UK, according to TrekCore and Amazon. I hope US doesn't follow suit.

USA! USA! USA!

Any particular reason why they did this? Bit odd to set it back a month so late in the game.
It's possible other territories may experience similar delays - with announcements coming in the next few days? If so, it may be a production error/replication problem?

If not, I can't really think of a good reason the UK would get bumped back a month at this point, but presumably, there is one.

It was bumped back three weeks before that too. The original release date was June 3 for US, not sure about you guys though.

It could be for financial reasons. They might want the sales to be in Q3 (Jul to Sep) instead of Q2 (Apr to Jun).

What are your top 5 episodes of the 6th season?

My memory's a little rusty, since I've been avoiding watching this season for a while, but I'm going to give it a go.

1. Chain of Command I & II
An epic two parter that worked on multiple levels. One of Patrick's Stewart's finest performances. And we also have two great guest stars in this one—Ronny Cox's "Jellico" and David Warner's truly creepy "Gul Madred." Trek at its best. Will buy the movie version too if I can get it at a decent price.

2. Frame of Mind
Wow. Like Star Trek crossed with Philip K. Dick. It's that good. This is the finest performance by Jonathan Frakes, imho, in the whole show. He's good in other episodes, but after seeing this I wished they'd stretched him more often. "You BET I'm agitated!"

3. Timescape
Picard drawing a happy face in a nearly frozen warp-core explosion. And then he laughs madly. Enough said. Great episode.

4. A Fistful of Datas
Star Trek's second homage to a classic Western (TOS had Spectre of the Gun), nicely directed by Patrick Stewart. Classic Data and Worf episode.

5. Relics.
A fond farewell to Commander Scott....

In broadcast order:

Realm of Fear - another solid Barclay episode
Schisms - One of the few Braga episodes that doesn't annoy me
Ship in a Bottle - Nice to see Moriarty back, plus double the Barclay this season
Tapestry - Oh good, a good Q episode this season after the boring True Q. Nice idea to flesh out Picard's character and the callback to his injury.
Starship Mine - Die Hard on the Enterprise, f$&k yeah! Though it makes NO sense for Picard to have a saddle without a specific horse.

Timescape I feel is overrated. Too many Braga-isms in it.

Chain of Command to me is basically one excellent episode padded into two above average ones.

What are your top 5 episodes of the 6th season?

"Time's Arrow II"
"A Fistful of Datas"
"Face of the Enemy"
"Starship Mine"

There are elements of "Chain of Command" that I like, but overall the episodes feel bloated.

What are your top 5 episodes of the 6th season?

"Relics" - Great return of Scotty combined with an interesting sci-fil plot involving the Dyson Sphere

"The Quality of Life" - A classic Trek question done well, with some additional tech jeopardy that was rare this late in TNG's run.

"Starship Mine" - A cracking action story done in "bottle show" style.

"Timescape" - Probably my favorite of the season overall, a very unique spin on time travel. Fun scene to start, plus nice to see the runabout in TNG.

"Descent, Part I" - A bit slow at times, but good to see the Borg return and in a unique way. Interesting cliffhanger ending too...

Honorable mention go to two episodes I think are underrated - "Man of the People" & "Aquiel"
