Remember howe ver that DW went for 16 years with only a single TV Movie produced.

In addition to the above the BBC also did

An Adventure in Time and Space about the making of DW.

Night of the Doctor which had the Doctor in just not the one we were expecting. :)

The difference however was DW was in production on TV at the time had it not been I expect we wouldn't have had much.

An Adventure In Space and Time was quite good and did feature several actors who had apeared in the show during the it covered circa 1963-1966.

I'd also recommed The Five(ish) Doctor's Reboot. It's actually quite impressive who they managed to get to appear in it. But then again maybe not.

All the Doctors appeared in Day of the Doctor, although some due to stock footage/dialogue and some CG copy and pasting over body doubles at the end.

The episodes which bookended the seventh season-Asylum Of The Daleks and Name Of The Doctor-likewise featured a good chunk of Daleks from all of the Dalek stories over the last 50 years and Name of the Doctor also did the stock footage/body double stuff which featured all the Doctors.

In a way it was a bit like Star Trek's 30th which also utilized some clever stock footage manipulation (Trials and Tribbleations) and a returning actor (George Takei in Voy's Flashback).

Doctor Who did have some anniversary stuff when it was off the air-the awful 90's 3D special Dimensions In Time and the decent documentary 30 years in the TARDIS; the 40th anniversary did have another documentary I believe and also the announcement of the new series, as well as audio and novel stuff.

There were plans for a more elaborate 30th special called The Dark Dimension, but those fell through.

Would love to have a special edition of Star Trek: The Motion Picture with the theatrical, director's and special longer editions all on one disc with seamless branching.

I think a rather interesting 50th Anniversary show would be to have some of the members from the TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voy go into a dream state where they wake in the new Trek Universe and interact with the new cast members on a one to one basis where Veteran Trek cast member thinks they are dreaming but are in fact in the new Trek timeline.

I suppose one current movie with just homages and nods to the original would be sufficient. Maybe one with Tribbles in it.

Several TV Movie reunions would be an unexpected surprise. Probably Sept or October, riding in the third film's wake.

I would love a new TV series/Netflix series for the 50th anniversary. Of course, we will have a movie, and I want that too, but the most important thing should be to bring back Star Trek to the small screen.

I think there should be a big party at OP's house, with everyone from TrekBBS flown in.

I think that this could be done, but as a series of animated movies (per my earlier post on the subject) so that the cost wouldn't be so much, and voice acting can be done without having the original actors if they don't want to reprise the roles they played. This would also let Doohan and Kelly be in the movie, also with different voice actors replacing them.

Also, if CBS doesn't want to show the movies on TV, they can have the movies be on DVD/download/PPV.

Bad Robot and Paramount should release a Star Trek movie directed by Robert Orci.

Things I'd like to see that are within the realm of possibility:

    1. A new TV series! Seriously, Trek was meant to be an weekly exploration of the human condition. Movies, though fun, will never work as well. In 2016, it'll be 11 years since the last Trek series was on TV. It's time to try again.

    2. That said, let's complete the trilogy. A new movie to wrap up this new universe. It's not like a movie and a TV series haven't both existed at the same time in the past. It's time to make it so again.

    3. Documentaries galore! One for each of the shows and one for the new movies. Interviews, this should be easy to do, and Trek deserves no less than Dr. Who got in this department.

    4. New DVDs/Blu-rays of whatever hasn't recently been re-released yet.

    5. a docu-drama in the style of Dr. Who's Adventure in Time and Space, only about Gene Roddenberry.

    6. merchandise for all the previous series, and the new stuff, updated action figures would be nice, but there is so much that can be done here

    7. a big crossover event for characters of all five series in both the novels and the comics

Well, they're not going to "wrap up this new universe." This is it.

Indeed! Abrams has introduced us to STAR TREK, all over again. The iconic characters are all back and it's universe is no less "true" than the "prime" one is. That's what I find somewhat confusing, as to where fans of the original are coming from. Kirk, Khan or some other "K" name would talk a good game about what "happened" from the Sixties through the 23rd Century. Assorted novelizations of varying quality and other attempts to shoehorn STAR TREK's timeline into Reality have been kind of sad, really. I mean ... the insistance of a certain percentage of the fanbase that this discrepency be somehow "rectified" is just too embarassing. Timelines in STAR TREK don't mean a hell of a whole lot and they shouldn't. I kind of wish that "they" hadn't blown up Vulcan in the new storyline, because I thought it could be a really exotic and wonderful setting for some really great stories. But ... Ceti Alpha VI exploded and the results of that fueled the fire for television episodes and movies, for decades after ...

I think the only thing we`ll get for the 50th is a big annoying marketing campaign for star trek 3. A documentary of some kind. And a crappy computer game.
