Orphan Black - Season 2 Discussion

The previous episode (the house party not last week) had menace though, we didn't know what Donnie was up to and what Alison would do to him, it had Paul and Vic who ends up a victim of a nail gun and it raised the stakes even through the humor. This one I never felt anyone was in danger.

^ Leekie seemed like he was in danger, even though Rachel warned him not to get in his car or go home. It felt like he was going to buy it, though by more obvious means.

It seemed like he was safer getting in the car with a gun wielding Donnie. Then....splat!

I wonder if Donnie will visit the same car wash Sarah used to power wash Katja's blood out of the Jag.

Honestly, I wasn't surprised at all by Leekie's death. I knew the moment he fled Dyad, he was going to buy it. I just didn't know how, until Donnie started waving his gun around.

Yeah, the episode was silly but we've had silly on this show before, so I didn't mind. Besides, I was too excited by the prospect of Michelle Forbes being the new bad guy.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

whoa.

And I was pleased that Donnie turned out more stupid than evil.

I love Alison.

Leakey pissed me off, his name, his over tallness, his baldness.. he was just kinda a boring stereotype. I won't miss him. The potentially truly insane Rachel and ADMIRAL CAIN in league, that could be anything! Anything.

Stupid or unlucky?

Reaction to his wifes condition: Stupid.

Ongoing monitoring of his wife: Stupid.

The gun going off: Unlucky...

Shit.

Was that Donnie's gun?

Why would Donnie have a Gun?

Is that Alison's gun?

Did that fat fuck kill Leekie with Alison's gun?

Dumb stupid piece of shit son of a bitch.

Why did he have the gun with him. He must have realized there was life or death stuff at stake here, that it was well beyond a sociology experiment. He's probably realized that a long time ago but been in denial about it, probably enjoyed feeling important.

How did he coincidentally end up finding Leekie? Was he looking for Leekie, did he go to his office to confront him? Or did he see him and seize the moment?

I think it must have been Alison's gun, since he clearly didn't know what he was doing with it.

But what I really want to know is, where was he during all this probing. Did they drug him? He was their dumb person, they were experimenting with having a monitor who knew nothing.

Christopher, it is easy to tell these women apart.

Deangelis looks like Erika Hernandez, only kind of bland.

Siobhan looks like Catlyn Stark, only well fed.

Marian looks like Admiral Cain if she'd been let go on and on being a bitch for another decade.

^Ironically, even though Michelle Forbes is the only one of those three actresses I knew before this, I wouldn't have recognized her at all if I hadn't already known she would be in this episodes. I've never seen her with that hairstyle before. I'm not that great with faces -- I usually need time to "learn" a face before I can recognize it (and have trouble distinguishing similar faces), and apparently hairstyle is an important part of what I need to learn, since a change in hairstyle can throw me off and make a person seem like someone completely different. (Which is part of why I have so much trouble remembering that Allison is played by the same actress as Sarah, Cosima, and Helena. Those bangs make a huge difference.) I recognized Forbes's voice -- I'm much better with voices -- but only because I knew what to listen for.

As for your comparisons, I don't really think Inga Cadranel (Angela) looks that much like Ada Maris (Hernandez), and I had to look up who Catelyn Stark was, since I don't watch Game of Thrones. I guess Michelle Fairley looks a little like Maria Doyle Kennedy, but that wouldn't have helped me anyway.

I'm not really a Forbes fan. I have great big affection for her because of Ro who was one of my favorite characters for years but I never found her very effective or distinctive in other roles. Cain is interesting, as she is written, but I'm still meh on Forbes. She was kind of one dimensional in True Blood.

I found Cain to be the opposite of interesting. She was a one-dimensional, caricatured psychopath. She's the one reimagined character from the revival who had less depth and believability than her counterpart from the original series.

Forbes is still Ro Laren to me, but I think I liked the idea of Ro more than the performer. Forbes is okay, but she's nowhere near as fun to watch as Matt Frewer. It's a shame to lose him.

What I meant was the character's writing was more interesting than the acting itself. I agree she is one dimensional, but I think she's a metaphor for psychopathy that is in humans that they refuse to see because they have the cylons to use that label on.

I guess I'm saying the opposite. While Forbes isn't a particular favorite of mine, I do think she was wasted on such a shallow caricature of a role. In fact, I think Cain soured me on Forbes because I disliked the character so much. Hopefully this new character will be more interesting.

Whoever the hell she is. I know the character's name was mentioned -- I don't remember it -- but I don't think we were given any idea what role she played, except for presumably being someone higher up in Dyad or The Vast Conspiracy than Leekie was.

I think Forbes looked so different because she actually smiled as this character. Most stuff I've seen her in she is either crying (The Killing) or scowling (BSG).

She did smile in TNG.

I can see the difference between Marion, Angela, and Mrs. S, quite easily.

It wasn't a coincidence. Donnie was parked just right outside Dyad, and when Leekie left the building Donnie started to follow him. What surprised me was that Leekie didn't notice the car starting up right as he was leaving Dyad.

I suppose Donnie waited till they were a good distance away from the building to confront Leekie.

Dr. Leekie did live up to his name. I'm trying to remember though does the episode confirm that he was shot dead in the head? I mean that was certainly the impression but was there anyway Donnie hit his shoulder or something?
