It's sort of like Hulk's situation with Marvel Studios.

Two underperforming movies makes them hesitant to try giving the character a solo movie.

Even when Hulk stole the show in "The Avengers" Marvel still hasn't green lite a new movie with Ruffalo.

So anticipate movies with titles like this from DC

    Green Lantern: The Batman Corps

    The Flash: Race to Gotham

    Wonder Woman: Bruce's Themysciran Vacation

    Green Arrow: Batman v. Deathstroke

Someone wrote an article late last year predicting that Warners was going to approach their DC superhero films more as DC Universe films all connected to the Justice League, with various combinations of characters featured in each film, than as individual franchises. It looks like that prediction might pan out.

I really want this movie to end with Superman and Batman hanging out in a cafe.

That kind of goes with what Kevin Smith said a few days ago too.

Now I'm not the biggest DC fan, but I welcome more Superhero films, and this approach seems kind of disappointing. Because while I love team up films every once in a while I think every hero deserves at least one or two solo films just so they can shine.

Yeah, I was referencing the article in light of Smith's comments.

I wasn't sure, that's why I brought it up. Still, two different sources talking about similar things. I think we can assume (until we find out otherwise) that this is the route DC/Warners is taking with the properties.

Again, to be clear, the article I read was just a prediction. It wasn't claiming any inside knowledge. It just may happen to turn out that it was correct.

Edit to add: I was having some trouble tracking it down at first, but I found it, so here's the article in question.

It would be the greatest after credits scene ever.

I know the guy who wrote that article.

He was very involved in the franchise during Superman Returns. His website at the time - BlueTights - had exclusive rights to a series of "vlogs" called Bryan's Journals which chronicled the behind-the-scenes process on Superman Returns back in 2004/2005. Those were fun.

I'm not sure how much input he has on this new iteration of the franchise, if any, but his thoughts are very insightful to say the least. I think he might be on the money with his prediction in the article.

Ah, I remember BlueTights. And yeah, I think he's probably right about WB's intentions. There might be the occasional solo film in the future (for say WW or Flash), but for the most part we'll probably be getting team-up films of some kind.

All I hope is that they start diversifying and finding new directors for all these. Much as I love Snyder's work on MOS, I don't exactly want every DC film to be made by him.

I wonder if there will be a Flash movie, with the TV show coming up... I wonder what the deal would be... would they? Could they? Would they use the same actor? I can't think of an example where there was a live action TV show going and a big screen version at the same time. Unchartered waters.

I remember discussion on these pages about whether WB should imitate the marvel approach or or find their own distinct way of doing a cohesive cinematic universe. Looks like they've gone for the latter option. I hope it works out for them - and us.

It would be cool if they could do a similar thing with Flash that Marvel is doing with SHIELD, and have characters or references to events from the movies pop up on the show.

It was easy to see why they had to separate the worlds of Smallville and SR at the time, but I don't see any reason why they couldn't work Flash and Arrow into the new MOS movie universe.

Hell, getting those character right even once is hard to do, so WB would be smart to take advantage of the great work that's already been done.

Batman is another example (same actors) but, IIRC, it was made prior to the series rather than during like the X-Files, but I'm hazy on the details and don't want to be too nitpicky. I'll keep that to Superman as they didn't share actors or continuity. YMMV.

Totally forgot about X-Files and Smallville.

According to Wiki, Batman was shot at the end of Season one and premiered in the summer between the first and second seasons of the TV show.

There are a few examples of TV shows and movies sharing the same continuity and cast, with a movie coming out while the show was still on the air, but Smallville and Superman Returns is the only example I can think of where there were simultaneously different versions of the same character in a live action movie and a live action TV show. Maybe Tarzan is another?

Edit to add: yep, Tarzan is another example. Tarzan movies were released in 1967 and 1968 starring Mike Henry, while Tarzan was on NBC starring Ron Ely.

Don't forget that soon we'll see Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman with Jeremy Irons as Alfred while on TV there will be David Mazous as young Bruce opposite Sean Pertwee as Alfred. As far as I know, this will be the first time we get to see differing but concurrent versions of Batman. In the past, WB has been careful not to have two versions airing at or even close to the same time. Hence the original Bruce Wayne TV series (which would've predated Smallville) got nixed in case it trod on the in-development Batman Begins, hence no Bruce in Smallville and for all I know it's the reason why Batman never appeared in Lois and Clark.
