I was tempted to stick up for IM2 somewhere in there, because while the film underwhelmed me the first time I saw it, I never agreed with the criticism that it was a set-up film. The meat of the story dealt with the ramifications of what had been established in the first film (effectively or not)...and in retrospect, it has more of a purpose as a sequel than IM3, IMO.

This x100. WB is too eager to catch up.

Agreed. There was a little bit of Avengers setup in IM2, yes, but it wasn't nearly as overt as critics seem to recall. It only took up a few minutes, at the most, out of a nearly two hour movie. I also agree with you about IM3, but that's a different topic.
And I agree with you again. It doesn't look like Warner Bros. has figured out yet that the MCU has become such a massive success because of years of careful planning on Marvel Studios' part. WB is still coming at this with the same old fashioned "let's throw something together as quick as possible while comic book movies are still big" mentality that led to Green Lantern.

And may I say that's a striking new avatar.

Of course, you could argue that all of the Scarlett material was setup for Avengers.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Some people seem to have issues with connectivity of films in a franchise. I like the Shield/Avengers story, and that's why I don't have a problem with parts of Iron Man 2 being about Shield/Avengers.

I think that's still likely to be what the bulk of the movie is about.

And then towards the end, as they're about to face down whatever huge threat there is, Batman will decide to enlist the help of others that he's been keeping tabs on-- presumably because Superman will have been severely weakened at that point and is not at full strength (because how ELSE to explain the need for other superheroes when someone with his powers is around? Lol)

I still imagine that WB meetings are a collection of old men smoking cigars at a board room table. They see this super - hero stuff and say "what is this shit? people buy this?" I don't think they have a clue.

Batman Begins was fairly grounded; they could understand that in the vein of a spy thriller / Kung fu / gangster movie. But a flying man in a cape? That's shit you push to boys to make them buy cereal; and girls hate it.

Yeah that may well be. Although I think it could also be because they realize they've got some VERY difficult characters to have to adapt. It's a slightly steeper hill they have to climb than what Marvel has with it's stable of flawed, quippy, and relatable characters.

Another possibility for including all of these characters in a Superman "vs." Batman film...a la Squadron Supreme and Kingdom Come, Batman finds and brings together the other members of the future Justice League to fight Superman. (Pure speculation.)

I think you're off base. Jeff Robinov was a geek culture kind of guy. He was willing to take a lot of chances on geek movies. Some of them worked out, some of them didn't. That's the way it goes. The current management team is new in their positions, so how DC movies will fare under Kevin Tsujihara's leadership remains to be seen.

I had the same thought. If Metallo is in the next movie, he and Cyborg might originate from the same program.

I can't be bothered linking to them because I haven't seen any reports that I'd consider reliable or informed but I've seen a re-emergence of the rumours that Jason Momoa is to be in this movie over the last few days. Still one for the 'pinch of salt' department.

Warner Bros plans for Zack Snyder to direct Justice League after Superman/Batman. You can read the story here at the WSJ.

Parademons flying out of boom tubes around the world? I think we are going to see something closer to the new 52 origin story.

Despite the WSJ story saying that Justice League won't be released before 2018, Latino Review is claiming they're hearing that WB is looking to release the movie on the 5th May 2017. File that under "rumor to be taken with a grain of salt" for now.

2017 seems awfully soon given Batman/Superman is supposed to hit screens 2016. Unless the rumor that both productions will film back-to-back is true.

As for Zack Snyder directing Justice League... file that under "biggest surprise of the day". I think we all expected this to happen. To be honest, I'm fairly tepid regarding the news. As of right now, I want to see how the Batman/Superman movie pans out before I get excited or dismiss Justice League. I will say it seems WB is slightly rushing this whole JLA thing. I would have liked a few more solo movies before leading up to JLA, but if this means we might get a solo Wonder Woman movie somewhere down the line (including more spin-offs) then I guess I can't complain.

I just hope David Goyer stays far away from this project.

Damn. I was hoping for Ben Affleck to direct Justice League.

I'd want Ben to direct the Wonder Woman movie to be honest.
