After thinking about the episode some more and going to the Easter Vigil mass, Might as well write some more about it.
In my quick post last night, I mentioned how this episode kept the momentum of the season finale and it just ran from there. That was the thing I appreciated the most about it. Here was a show that I absolutely love but we had to wait close to a year between new episodes. How would the show come back? Was my anticipation leaning towards Overreaction? Would my expectations not be met because I was so excited for the show to come back?
Thankfully, that's what this episode provided. I wish I could say it was classic Orphan Black, but with a show that only has 10 episodes, how "classic" is it? Well, it had everything I liked about season 1. Felix being the comedy relief at the club, Felix and Alison, Sarah being the action type, Sarah impersonating another clone (in this case Cosima) and then that cliffhanger ending, which I really hope they explain next week. I was reminded about shows where you get a great season finale, but the season premiere leaves something to be desired, and the show with the best example of that is Voyager. Voyager had great season finales, like Scorpion or Equinox, but the season premieres kind of loss something, even though I find Scorpion II much better than Equinox II. Orphan Black's premiere felt like a continuation of the finale, and that non-stop action just kept building that momentum, not destroying it.
This show started to hit the ground running with the Train scene, and the second season has started much the same way, picking up right where we left off and we have our storylines for Season 2. I'm excited that we're going to get more on the Proleathians this season, which will really help build this overall universe. Season 1 was about getting to know the characters, especially Sarah. It looks like Season 2 will be more behind the scenes of the big picture and I can't wait to see how it all plays out.
One thing about this show that I love too is most shows like this makes me begging for the writers to answer the questions and it feels like they are just dragging. I know it's popular around these parts, but that was my biggest problem with Ron Moore's BSG. They took their sweet time on the whole Cylon Plan only to reveal that they didn't have one and that really annoyed me. Here, the tension is so strong that I don't have time to think about nagging questions, and even if I did, They are answering those questions. For example, to find out at the end where Kira was was great, and the reveal was creepy as all hell. Seeing her on the bed with the Camera rolling was unnerving, especially when we see what they did to Helena.
As for the Helena reveal, when I heard her theme, my first response really was "holy shit". I'm still thinking about it today, but it is more I've never been so happy to hear Helena's theme like I was last night. Heck, I've heard people call it annoying, or I even heard someone compare it to Britney Spear's Toxic and all I could think after last night's episode was, yeah that's why we have her theme. Was a brilliant use of the score, something this show is also really really good at.
