I was thinking that too Guy, this Movie Ultron would be like Onslaught, the psychic melding of two different characters one good one bad. In bad ass armor.

Step 1094: steal underpants
Step 1095: ...
Step 1096: PROFIT!!!

Only Lemmiwinks can save us now! ...Wait, what show are we watching again? :)

Yeah, my take is that Pierce thinks he's being altruistic and it's for the greater good, that he is truly acting to protect the security of the world from threats. But he's making these decisions of his own free will. In fact, that seems to be HYDRA's mission as a whole now, which is transnational and multigenerational. Therefore, individuals are not benefiting at all from this but are sacrificing themselves for a greater mission (one that doesn't even involve individual national supremacy).

I actually really liked that the villains weren't just doing what they were doing for the sake of being evil, they had a clear ideology and set of values.

"About" seems to be too strong of a word, but it's certainly an allusion to that, yeah. I thought it was pretty clear. It's a bit of how much power to trust people with. The stadium execution is a good example. In specific small examples, it's hard to say "well, I disagree with that." But these small things add up. Although the "not if you're pulling the trigger" line muddies things bit. The point should be that no one should have that power, not that it's just the wrong person. Pierce joined the HYDRA branch of SHIELD because he believed it would lead to a better world, not because he personally wanted power and glory.

As far as what's motivating Pierce... seems to me you have to ask yourself what motivates any would-be fascist.

Obviously, the motives vary. I don't think there's a single motive. Obviously, he doesn't seem to be about racial superiority or anything like that. Nor does he seem to be primarily concerned with some kind of masculine identity thing like Mussolini seemed to have. His view seems to principally be one of preserving peace and order (although, ironically, HYDRA did this through perpetuating chaos and war).

Yeah, it's why I don't entirely hate Sitwell for his betrayal. It's not inconsistent to fight towards good causes in the past but secretly believe this. That and he got kind of pathetically thrown into a truck in a way that was pretty awesome. :D

I find the "Hail HYDRA" an unnecessary BWAA-HAA-HAA - but I guess Pierce and Sitwell didn't say it.

(that I can recall)

Pierce did right before he died. I don't recall Sitwell saying it, but he had someone say it to him (he may have said it back). Don't get me wrong, HYDRA is still very cultish even if their motives are more nuanced than one might initially think.

The Senator definitely whispered it to him. Whether they both did, I'm not sure.

Saw it again today. It helped clear things up and made me see stuff I missed before. I wonder how these events will affect AoS. Maria Hill goes on to work for Stark Industries. Agent 13 becomes a CIA agent. If SHIELD has disbanded, then what of Agent Coulson and his team?

QUESTION: Was the GPS/system voice in Fury's SUV Robert Downey Jr.'s?

Should we start the Coulson's Employed movement?

That HYDRA senator who has a 23 year old reporter waiting on his bed at home, is that a nod at House of Cards?

I guess we'll find out in this week's Agents of SHIELD. Who knows, maybe the show might change its name lol

Senator Sterns was already in Iron Man 2. And he's probably the father of The Leader.

Random Bit I Liked: the long scene in the elevator when Fury is telling Cap about his grandfather. That was a great character moment that told us so much about Fury's motivation, I'm glad they didn't cut that.

I really loved how this was a team movie. It wasn't just about Cap, the way a Iron Man or Thor movie is. It was about Cap, Black Widow, Falcon, Fury, SHIELD itself... It really did feel like Avengers 1.5

Great film. So. Much. Fun. Looking forward to seeing what they do next. Loved the post credit scene. Short but oh so sweet.
With all that's happening I sure wish I was younger so I could keep enjoying the ride.
