I'm curious to see then how quickly they're gonna incorporate the events of The Winter Soldier into this then.
I would have thought they would have waited till around the season finale, or at least a few more weeks anyway. It seems odd if they are gonna start next week. Seen as it only came out here in the UK last Friday, and isn't even out properly in the US till this Friday.

ie. I thought they'd have waited a bit till people have caught up, its not like everyone can just drop everything (like me tbf) and go see a movie as soon as it comes out.

Sitwell was in last weeks S.H.I.E.L.D.

    That's a ticking clock.

I am not sure on the Timing of this. Could the end of the episode be happening at the same time Cap is making his escape from HQ? That would be a reason to detain his best bud Coulson and deal with his little Band of merry agents.

That would still leave it open if Hand is a bad guy or not

We saw earlier that she believes that the apparatus in total is more important than any part of the apparatus.

Hand could decide they need to die and it's just her obeying the rules.

Only obeying orders does not make you evil.

I don't think she ever said to kill anyone. I think she said "take care" of them and that she'd "deal" with Coulson. We're probably meant to think she's the Clairvoyant, but it's probably a red herring.

Ward shooting the guy was totally out of left field. I was waiting for some reason-- anything from he saw something nobody else saw to a post-hypnotic suggestion-- but apparently he was just upset. I hope this isn't some lame attempt to make the show "edgier." I have a feeling the only way out of this for him is that there won't be enough of SHIELD left to conduct a hearing.

Despite the episode being mostly action, there were still some good character moments, mostly centered around Skye's new status as SHIELD agent. The "ceremony," the comments by Ward, the talk with Garrett. I also loved the look on Fitz's face when meaningful glances passed between Simmons and Triplett. :rommie:

And then, after a Winter Soldier preview that was nothing but car crashes and explosions, we get "everything you thought you knew is a lie." I really hope they don't screw things up. This has been a great show so far.

She said: "when that plane touches down, take out everyone on board, except Agent Coulson.... he's mine".

She didn't mean take them out to dinner.

Yeah, I think Hand is too obviously an antagonistic character to be the real threat. I get the impression that she's just on the other side of an ideological gap and is following orders, not going rogue of her own volition. Indeed, in this scenario, I think if anyone in Shield is "going rogue" it'll be the Bus crew (are we calling them that yet?)

It's better than calling them a pack of Bussies.

Well, there is an obvious other explanation - he was acting under orders. However, assuming that's not the case, let's keep in mind that he touched the Berserker Staff. The anger you get from that supposedly lasts hundreds of years, so he's less likely to be the cool, calm, collected agent that started the show.

I don't think it's about being "edgier," but that's a very vague term and can mean different things, so I'm not sure.

^To be fair, the show acknowledged it was out of character. Garrett commented on it and Coulson's first reaction when things went sideways was that Ward was acting under orders.

Yeah, I think that's fair. It was deliberately shown as out of character. I'm struggling to believe those were enough buttons to actually cause someone to shoot someone but, then again, I was predicting a scenario like the Joker in The Dark Knight, what's his face in Skyfall, or Loki in Avengers where he deliberately engineers his capture and then controls things from the inside. I definitely thought they he could not be stopped unless he was killed (so, in that sense, Ward's call was the right one provided it was done spontaneously and not under orders).

Obviously, something else amiss besides Ward acting out of character is May taking two shots at Fitz. We knew that she was reporting to someone off the plane, but until this episode I don't recall any evidence that she would try to kill a member of the team.

I'm wondering whether mind control is at work, too.

She used that stun gun instead of lethal rounds. She actually didn't intend to kill Fitz.

It was the night night gun, so she wouldn't have killed him.

Oh was it? I missed that then. All I saw was that it put two craters in the shatter-proof glass.

I just rewatched it. Right, she called it an "icer" and it had the blue markings on it.

When she pointed it at Coulson, she said it was only a stun gun, to which he replied that his wasn't.

Yup. Thanks. I rewatched it, and amended my previous post. Dunno how I missed that the first time.

I think the whole May thing is being blown out of proportion. She has to be reporting to Fury since the whole 'Coulson knows' thing came immediately after the mission to the Guest House. This can only be a reference to the fact that Coulson now knows where the resurrection serum comes from. The Clairvoyant can't be reported to since he doesn't know anything about the serum, nor can any lower agent be in the loop since Fury code locked the file to His Eyes Only.

Also, the Bus may not be remote accessible for flight path alteration. May, Coulson, Skye and Fitz are in the cargo area of the plane when all of a sudden it turns and heads for Hand's location. The one conveniently absent is Ward who just executed Nash for really no good reason. Ward is a trained field agent, he wouldn't be that emotional. His immediate execution and really weak reasoning for why he did it makes it easy to suspect him of being a traitor. Plus his mission also had what was most likely a maximum security super-max prison where the guard room was empty. There is no conceivable reason for that to occur. If there was an emergency that required the guards to vacate that room then alarms would be blaring loud and clear.

Didnt Simmons call from Triskelion or where she and agent Triplett went and say that there were soldiers coming in? And there were two instances on the Captain America movie where there were soldiers at the Triskelion. Captains escape and end battle. So next weeks episode has to take place during end battle of Captain America movie.

    I said out, dammit!
One of those stun rounds would have hit Fitz in the face if the glass wasn't there. Hard enough to score the glass! That CAN'T be healthy.
