Yeah a parallel timeline literally mean running parallel to the first one - that's what was said in the movie

It is all a STORY, all your season boxsets are still on your shelf, JJ didn't wipe them from existence.

What of STAR TREK 13 then?

It's interesting to see how they will take the story forward- Klingons as the main enemy, would the Borg be a bit much?

Even though before 'Into Darkness' I thought that Nimoy shouldn't have been in Trek12 to give the NuCrew a chance to shine I'm glad he was there and being the 50th Anniversary should the new one be released in 2016 I hope he makes another cameo. People forget that with The Cage [50 years old this year!; filmed Nov-Dec 64] Leonard Nimoy as Spock is Star Trek's longest serving character/actor, and spans right from then to last year's film.

I do prefer an original story that moves the characters forward.

Same here. I appreciate them trying to split the difference but it came across awkwardly.

Well, the wording makes it vague and open to interpretation. We're really working more with writer intent than anything clearly stated on screen.

I agree. If they had just started over, and ST XI had not involved time travel of any kind, it still wouldn't have erased the original timeline. The two versions of BSG, for example, exist side by side, and (unlikely though it may be that they could exist in the same universe) nobody seriously thought nuBSG overwrote the old, did they? Same story here.

^ Yes, Old Spock is awesome, but we've had plenty of films with him in them. ;)

That being said, I'd also have settled for the ship that's destroyed in the opening of ST XI being the original, TOS-era Enterprise (with Robert April in command). That's what was supposed to happen, but Abrams was ordered to remove it because TPTB would not under any circumstances allow him to destroy an Enterprise. So he had to change it to the Kelvin, and April became Robau.

That's the first I've heard of this. Do you have a link?

    http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/USS_Kelvin#Identifying_the_Kelvin says only this:

The part about destroying the Enterprise came from this 2009 Newsarama interview, if I'm not mistaken:
If the part about Robert April commanding was ever anything more than rumor or fan speculation, I don't know what its source might be.

I would like to see the next film dealing with the cardassians maybe in the Film the federation and cardassians become allies and friends unlike the prime universe where they dont get on.

    Thanks!

That passage also doesn't seem to imply that the destruction of the Enterprise is what got revised into the Kelvin sequence, either. So, it doesn't contradict the Memory Alpha quote about the Iowa.

Outside of the Borg, I'm content to allow the 24th century species to remain in the 24th century.

When they reboot again (and they will) they can do this. The alternate timeline business was a bit awkward, but it provided a way for Leonard Nimoy to play Spock in the movie. I think it was worth it for that.

We know that with Directing/Producing/Writing activity, a third movie is definitely on, currently.

We know JJ/Bad Robot are looking for a Director, and Bad Robot will still Hold Producing Credits/Control.

I believe Lindeloff has left the writing staff (And Kurtzman, as well?) and there are two "Up and Coming" hopefuls that will be writing the Script with Orci.

I think that's pretty much what we know so far, though I believe there's been strong rumors of a goal of having a 2016 release date, to coincide with 50th Anniversary.

ETA: Oh, also, they are changing shooting City, expecting to save about $20M, which will be chopped off the Budget (IE: Same practical budget, but, it will cost them $20M less [Savings from changing shooting location])

Well, I listened to a podcast the other day with Pegg in it (Richard Herring's Leicester Square theatre Podcast (RHLSTP!), very funny!) where he confirmed there would be a third move and he will be in it, if that helps :p

I wish it had happened that way, if only to remove the ugly-arse Kelvin design from canon, pretty much the ONLY design in post 09-Trek that looks terrible imo
(hey, hero ships should have symmetry dammit, not a stupid upside down hull/single nacelle combination!)

You would give up Spock Prime AND THE ROBAU??!?!!:klingon:
I suspect it's fan speculation based on April being George Kirk's BFF in the novels Final Frontier and Best Destiny, which the writers cited as their source for Kirk's father's name and occupation.

I like the idea put forth in another thread about starting the film with the end of "Deadly Years." We get Shatner and Nimoy on the bridge, and Urban/McCoy rushes in and shoots them up with the magic serum to turn them back into Pine and Quinto.

After that, I'd like to see them warp off to fight the Klingons who are raiding border colonies. Insert space battles, hand to hand combat on some weird backward planet, Kirk about to pull a ridiculous victory out of his butt, when suddenly ... wait for it ...

    Organians.

That's the film I want to see.
