I admit,I did not watch ENT in it's original run. The early eps turned me off.

Since that time I have watched ENT from beginning to end at least 3 times(this in conjunction with the other series(the whole completionist thang)).

I still don't understand Vulcans in ENT.

    What am I missing?

Watch Amok Time and listen to that revered condescending leader T'Pau in her old age.

I'm just saying that the Vulcans in TOS were condescending pricks a lot of the time. Then you go back some years to the ENT era and they were even more so, and some were the same people

The only real "explanation" I can put to it is that the Vulcans we mostly see on Enterprise are working in official capacities, i.e. governmental representatives. We can all grind our teeth over politicians all day long, but I like to think that their ways and views are not representative of average schlubs like us.

Or, think of it in Star Trek terms: what if Star Trek were a Vulcan show, and mostly what they saw of humans were people like (from the original series) Ambassador Fox, Commisioner Ferris, etc. I'm sure a Vulcan equivalent of TrekBBS would have a thread 'I Don't Understand Star Trek Humans'!

I can understand Why TOS Vulcans are condescending pricks.

I still don't understand ENT Vulcans.

Um, there's an entire arc in ENT that partly explains this.

Perhaps it would help if you could tell us what exactly it is about ENT Vulcans that you find confusing.

If I could tell you exactly what it is about ENT Vulcans that I find confusing, I probably wouldn't be confused...no?

WHEN will see a male Vulcan in a pony tail, when when when..

Even the Fusion Vulcans sported the same bowl cuts.

Okay Sybok was a wild dude, but is he the only fashion rebel among the male gender in Vulcan town?

If you don't know why you're confused, how do you know that you are confused?
I think the Vulcan/human relations in ENT are very interesting. We see humans struggling to break free of Vulcan's protective guardianship, but given how recently humans had nearly destroyed themselves, I think the Vulcans aren't completely in the wrong to be concerned. The situation had shades of grey that made things more complicated, and more interesting.
We do see a lot of Vulcans being arrogant and xenophobic, but we see this to a lesser degree in TOS too. Vulcans begin to grow into their beliefs during this time.

One of the few thing I did like about The Way to to Eden was Spock's relationship with Adam. Spock did seem as though he genuinely liked the guy, in spite of Adam's lifestyle. It was actually kind of a bummer to me that Adam sort of turned on him later.

Hell, Spock was often a condescending prick. It's a basic Vulcan character trait.

Tuvok, too. I'm actually having a hard time thinking of any Vulcan character who wasn't a bit of a tool from time to time.

Maybe think on it like this:

Vulcans: Might not know everything in the universe, but knows enough to know that human are basically children who think they know more than they acually do.

Humans: Waaaa :scream: (rebelious child who thinks their parent [Vulcans] are uncool and don't know anything) Stop treating us like children, we are adults.

Vulcans: If you want to be treated like adults then start acting like one.

Humans: Waaaaa :scream: You Vulcans don't know nothing...bout anything.

I tend to side with the Vulcans on this one. Human behavior on Enterprise is tedious at best. Between Tripp being a complete egotistical TOOL, and Archer acting like the Mr. Rodgers of the universe, I can see where the Vulcans facepalm and roll their eyes constantly. But, this is just my opinion. :bolian:

^Why? Because the Vulcans--or more importantly, the High Command--was more successful at forming an alliance around common regional interests?
