The Night Of The Doctor

I think they could probably use the Time War setting to set apart McGann stories which could have a darker more desperate setting than the prime Doctor stories. It would be nice for some of those big gaps as mentioned or maybe in lieu of a Doctor-lite story.

I was thinking one thing that would set them apart is that other Time Lords could appear.

McGann stories don't have to necessarily be set during the Time War.

Good point. There's a lot that could be done with that. They could cast new actors as the Master, Romana, even Susan, and explain why none of them escaped the Time War. Or, as you say, the stories could be set before the Time War, and be in the vein of the old series where Gallifrey was still an active but not particularly evil player in events. That alone would make it very distinct from the current series.

The Master did escape the Time War. He fled in terror to the end of the Universe and used a fob watch to hide as a human, didn't he? Though he participated in the war, he seemed to miss the worst of it, what with the Tenth Doctor needing to explain that the war turned into hell before it ended.

^Sorry, poor choice of words. I started out to write "explain how they got drawn into the Time War," and then rethought it with Romana and Susan in mind and forgot that my revised phrasing didn't apply to the Master as well.

Quick question:
Why does the opening credit sequence not have "Doctor Who", just PMs' name and the title of the episode?

EDITED: Actually I looked back at other Prequels from previous years, and they don't have that either. I wonder why?

I'd prefer they not recast Susan and Romana because I still want them to have escaped to E-Space. At a minimum, I wouldn't mind Lalla Ward having a guest appearance. Perhaps I'm just overly optimistic, though.

The only thing that I makes sense to me is that maybe they're trying to shave three or four seconds from the running time. If you're watching it online, chances are you already know that it's Doctor Who. So maybe announcing that fact is redundant. Maybe.

I'd definitely like to see Lalla as Lord President Romana with McGann (Or even Hurt) before it all it goes to hell and Rassilon replaces her (In the Audio Gallifery Adventures, this could be explained by her jumping Universes with Leela, K-9 and a couple awesome Audio Companions (Narvin and Braxietel)

Susan was never in E-Space, she was left on 22nd Century Earth after a Daek Defeat, and The Five Doctors suggests (to me at least) that she thrived there. I'd welcome Carol Anne Ford back, Hartnell, Did say that he would return, I'd love to 11 or 12 return to her Era of Earth and finally see her again before her first Regeneration :bolian:

Whatever the reason, the opening credits we did get zooming past the camera in exactly the same way as the TV Movie credits (and I know the new series titles usually do the Superman Thing with the names of the lead actors but I don't think it has ever done so with the story title/writer's credit) was one of the very many nice little touches.

I was thinking just now that the ONLY thing that would improve it in my mind (aside from more McGann time, of course) is that I wish they gave him his own real opening titles. That would've been cool. Even if they had to insert him on the current titles to save money, it would've been nice to see.

Do those petitions ever work?

There's part of me that wants to say that online petitions are the modern version of a letter writing campaign.
Since this is Trek BBS, everyone here knows what happened in the 60's. It's possible it could work now.

The realist in me, however, says "No fucking way!"
