That's kind of why I like Trek a lot more than Star Wars is because it can do many different kind of stories whether it's an allegory touching on philosophical issues, it can be court drama, a "who dunnit" story, or just a plain old outrageous romp. That's why I say DS9 comes closer to the TOS model because it wasn't afraid to go all across the board, even if the main storyline involved war because there's so much to life even in the darkest of times.

Star Wars is quite distinct from Star Trek. Disregard my moronic statement of Star Trek being a slightly more serious Star Wars. Not even sure why I said that. In a rut so I don't know what I'm saying anymore.

MakeshiftPython has a good point about ST going into different stories. There's so much variety because it's based on discovery or exploration.

If that's pure Romulan Ale, I assume by responsibly, you mean 'drink this over the next week if you want to live'

A week to ten days, depending on body weight... and distance to nearest medical facility. ;)

Romulan Ale has nothing on Scotty's Scotch and Klingon Nerve Gas concoction.

God, Scotty really was an alcoholic.

The man worked on the most dangerous ship in the fleet in red uniform week to week for at least 5 years. You think a little neurotoxin in his gut-rot is going to kill him?

I'd love to see Scotty take on bloodwine, "you may be Klingon devils, but you know how to drink!"

"Move Along Home" felt like an episode that belonged in the third season of TOS. It's so surreal to watch Kira play an alien version of hopscotch.

Move Along Home, good grief, that one would need Scotty's level of drinking to cope with.

Ripping off Star Wars is hardly a recommendation in favor.

If Enterprise ever becomes available on Netflix, I'll give it another try. But I reserve the right to give up again if I continue to find it too ridiculous, too boring, or if Trip's accent annoys me too much.

You must have missed the episodes of Bonanza that were intentionally funny. There were some.

I never found it funny that Data wanted Worf to take care of the cat. Data doesn't respect his own cat enough to be sure if it's male or female, he doesn't consider his cat sentient (any true cat parent will tell you otherwise), and Worf hates cats. So how was that anything funny?

Not all of Lwaxana's episodes were meant to be funny. The one guest starring David Ogden Stiers (where his character faced mandatory euthanasia just for having reached a particular age) was definitely a serious episode.

Serious question: Why was nuChekov wearing those silly goggles? Were they to protect his eyes from something? Were they to help him see something better?

Ditto for Dark Page, the one where we find out about Troi's sister, Kestra. I always rate both of these episodes among TNG's best.

The absurdity of it all was funny, at least for me. Then there are bits like a scratched up Riker handing the feeding duties to Beverly and telling her she'll need a phaser.

    Not in Canada, it isn't.

Besides, they've just started the new Doctor Who stuff (from Eccleston onward), and I missed a lot of it due to not having a working TV, and then not having the right cable package. So that's what I'm watching lately.

It's ridiculous to get scratched up from trying to feed a cat, unless the cat is angry that you're not doing it right. I'd have sympathy for Riker if he'd been trying to trim the cat's claws, but there are tricks to make that a relatively scratch-free exercise, too.

I'm sorry for the cat being taken care of by what to the cat is a machine. Does Data smell like a living being?

This cat lives alone. The only human contact it has are human visitors to Data's quarters. No wonder it is feral.

I don't want to speculate what Data smells like. I always found what he looks like revolting enough (I really do not like Data).

From the cat's perspective, the instinct is to mark one's human as a way of indicating "this is mine" to other cats. So Spot would have rubbed his head and muzzle on Data's face and tried to knead his skin (or at least knead his lap or arms through his uniform). I'm guessing that Data might have allowed this from having read that cats do it, but the emotional connection would have completely escaped him.

BUT my point is the cat would not have done any of this any more than a cat would respond to a great big feeding arm that scooped up cat food and dumped it in a bowl once a day. Data is not a carer to the cat any more than a cat door that lets a cat into a room that contains its bowl is something the cat shows affection to.

If Spot did rub up against him a lot it's no different than a cat having a favorite chair.
