Let me be clear, I hate the Red Sox but not their fans... when I visited Boston a few years ago (in full Yankee gear), Red Sox fans were very nice to me the whole time. Can't fault them for that. They're like the anti-Philadelphia.

Wow Jim Leyland resigned/retired from the Tigers. That's too bad, I was hoping he'd be able to take them all the way next year. I remember when the Rockies had him and he was just so beaten down, he just slept in a conference room at Coors Field and bailed on the team the first minute he could.

    Great manager!

I remember when he managed the Pirates.

Nice to see him step down on his terms.

    The game will miss him.

Even with his pronounced resemblance to Scorpius from Farscape, I liked Leyland. I was impressed by how he turned the Tigers around. Too bad he'll never have a World Series ring. :sigh:

Same here. I can't even manufacture interest in one team or the other.

I hope the Red Sox sweep. I'm sick and tired of the Cardinals

That was the worse defensive played game I have ever seen St. Louis play, I watched them a lot this season. Except for the fantastic play by Carlos Beltran to rob Big Pappi of a grand slam. Carlos Beltran was fantastic for the Mets. I was very sorry to see him go but I'm glad he found a home in St. Louis.

Check out the 1:24 mark. Is Lester putting a foreign substance on the ball?

    Here you go, MLB
    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/mlb--r...dragged-into-a-non-controversy-163709343.html

Non-issue, and said as much from Cards' GM, amongst others. Seems to be fairly common, can argue however you like, I guess. Local sports radio from a team that just got embarrassed isn't the most unbiased source, though.

Anyway, seems like it's a common thing, and the opposite of a spitball or vasoline or whatnot. If anyone had a problem with it, it would have been dealt with. But since it seems that pretty much every pitcher is doing it...

Between this 'controversy' and the whining over the (correctly) reversed call, I like that the Cards seem distracted. They're a young team, and if the manager is caught up in it too, they may take their cues from him and are going to have trouble focusing. Whine away, it means the Sox are in their heads...

Regardless.... doesn't anyone remember Galord Perry?

If you ain't cheatin, you ain't tryin...

Exactly... I wouldn't look past the Cards team though. This is new territory for much of the team, but they have proven the ability to get it together and come back.

^ If they start putting forth a defense somewhere above Little League, and stop letting popups drop right at their feet, I'm sure they can.

If anything, they should check Kozma's glove for Vaseline!

It's actually probably pine tar to help with the grip on the baseball on cooler days.

The Red Sox blew this game, sure it's not over, but that whole seventh inning was a mess and the sweep will not happen.

That means the Sox will lose their first World Series game since the famous "Opps, ball went between my legs" game 7 from 1986.

I really was hoping for a sweep because I hate the Cards almost as much as the Yankees.

Game 6, not 7. Common mistake, but sox had another while game to try and come back, that error didn't end it
