The death at the end was interesting. I was thinking about that a lot with woodberry last season. The accidental death could be devastating to take place at night when everybody is sleeping and such. Also what kind of disease is that! Some type of fact acting hemorrhagic fever! The kid was fine in the mourning and dead within 24 hours. That's scary.

At this point we are at least a year into a society with no modern health care as we know it. No hospitals, very few doctors, untreated water systems, no trash disposal, limited access to medicine, etc.

That's a recipe for middle ages style pandemics regardless of a zombie virus.

I liked the shower head slowing to a drip as the kid died offscreen. Nice visual metaphor.

I liked this season's opener (though I'm not sure why almost zombie girl brought Rick back with her just to kill herself). I'm trying to disinterest myself from the characters knowing a bunch are about to die the next episode. I didn't call Kyle Gallery's (Smallville) death. I was thinking Impulse should have been faster than that.

Presuambly they still have access to antibiotics which would help stop those pandemics.

Regarding episode I liked it. Good opener for the season. I was thinking on my way to work this morning I drive through Smyrna GA to get downtown ATL and Glock has a huge firearms production facility here. You'd think that someone in the group would know that and make a trip to get extra guns and ammo.

She brought him back so her husband's head would have something to feed on that was big and a fresh kill - him walking was faster than her killing him in the woods and carrying him. After he found out she was teh ev1l I guess it didn't matter anymore.

^But did a weak malnourished woman with a knife really think she could take a man like Rick down with a gun? I guess you can blame it on her being crazy.

I immediately thought the meat (deer) was infected and that is what turned the kid. It will be interesting to see what explanation they give.

I was screaming at the medic to grab a bottle, and it really bothered me that they did not give the kid being chewed on a head shot.

Putting aside the fact that no one has actually manufactured antibiotics in over a year and the likely run on the ones that were (making them scarce long ago), most antibiotics are among the sensitive and easily denatured medicines. As proteins, or more specifically oligopeptides, they are subject to hydrolyzation, the main form of attack. Heat and moisture are the enemy.

So under southern U.S. conditions, many can go bad in 6 months or less.

And then there's the fact that a lot of types of antibiotics need to be refrigerated. In a world without electric power, that would limit the supply even further.

That won't be an issue. If they were really paying attention to how long things would last, gasoline should have broken down at least a year ago in their world, and cars would no longer be running.

They won't bring up antibiotics going bad, just a scarcity of them.

The logical thing to do in their world is if someone becomes deathly ill, you segregate them and then destroy their zombie once they die. Trying to save them is suicide for the entire group.

That's true, regarding the gas. My point was simply that there are a lot of ways the writers could have amped up the threat of zombies without (as it appears may be the case) mutating the zombie virus.

So, you think the virus is going to jump species? Pig physiology has some similarities to human.

they should have electricity by now, why aren't they setting up windmills. I guess there are a limited number of solar panels to salvage. But their will be rv solar panels out there.

True. The folks in Woodbury however did have electricity and presumably antiboitics which helped cure Andrea from the flu last season.

Speaking of which it seems idiotic that the group wouldn't have setup a generator at the prison by now.

If that's the case, they really should bring in Garth Ennis as a guest writer. ;)

The premier episode should set the stage for more intense ones to come. I try to keep that in mind but I admit I'm a little disappointed they didn't start with the momentum established in last season's finale with the Governor.

I hate that Merle is no longer on the series. I'd be willing to see Daryl have visions of Merle to argue with.

Creepy Clara was awesome but I was secretly hoping for some kind of dramatic zombie ambush of weirdness. I admit I didn't catch all the whispers, and I thought the head was in fact a baby, given her reactions. Not sure why she'd feel a need to feed a head. But then again, I don't understand how a body can physically function without metabolism, blood, etc.

Great to have TWD on the air again! Awesome episode. Cool new characters. The intensity of that one fence walker was incredible.

The prison had some electricity. When Daryl was telling Beth that her boyfriend died, there was a desk lamp on in the cell.

Yes, there's no excuse for this "community " to not have posted guards at every major cell block access point for walkers as well as living threats.

I'm guessing the nerd zombie will bite someone, arguments will erupt over a loved one not being "put down" after being infected, which will allow more bites/rapidly spreading er, "zombie-izing."

On Talking Dead, the showrunner of the week (;))said Beth's attitude about loss and death will be a running point in the season, so I take that to mean contrary to many fans predictions, she will survive for some time.

Nice to see Carl enjoying comic books; he has not lost all of his youthful interests.

The strange woman in the woods seems to be a hint of things to come, such as...you know....

Yes, leaving her there was odd, but he seemed so disturbed by the situation, that he needed to put distance between himself and that camp.

The left-alone woman will be a huge plot point when she eats Carl. :D
