Gay is a chosen lifestyle, you are not born that way...
Why is it do people feel like they have to have a gay person in every show on TV, especially Star Trek. Leave the gay out of it. Star Trek New Voyages put a gay person in the crew and they lost lots of their fans, now they are just a trickle of what they used to be, does Paramount want to try to take that risk with the money maker Star Trek is? I think not. So please, keep gay out of it and just enjoy it the way it is, why ruin it. Why always put the gay factor in. sheeesh.
Let's see. If we substitute for the word 'gay' with 'african-american' or 'female' or 'russian' ... oh yeah, I see what you mean.
But just so the meaning is clear, we'd better set it on another starship, the USS W.A.S.P., which carries shuttlecraft called JOHN BIRCH and REDNECK and maybe even KLANSMAN, though it is hard to tell about the latter because it is usually stored in a shroud.
I just wanted to ask a question about it because on any Trek discussion, someone has to bring up about wishing Kirk was gay, or someone else is gay, or make a gay crew member, etc. African American, etc are all born that way, they cannot help it. Gay is a chosen lifestyle, you are not born that way so why does someone always have to bring up the gay subject in star trek. That is all I was asking is why bring that up all the time. Why can't we let Star Trek be Star Trek.

You can't compare a person's race to a person's sexuality or gender there are completely two different things.
You can have that discussion here or here. The former is more no holds barred and "mark" free.I don't know if this is the right place to talk about homosexuality because you can get marked for spamming. The subject of homosexuality is very complex there are so much emotions that goes into it and you might end up offending people if you state your views.

You can't choose your skin-colour or your sex, neither who you are attracted to...
So they pretty much are the same thing...
No its not the same thing. people don't need to act on feelings. Also men are women are different. our genders are different.
So, I shouldn't have reacted to the feelings I had for the woman who became my wife? You can't choose your skin-colour or your sex, neither who you are attracted to...

Just please stop.
Seriously, serenitytrek1? One person has just received a warning for trolling off-topic and the moderator concluded issuing that warning with this admonition to the rest of the forum:Gay is a chosen lifestyle, you are not born that way...

While I love and support everyone in the world regardless of how they choose to leave their lives. I am not someone that encourages homosexuality.
I don't think the media and many of this Hollywood shows are helping people because they tend to glamorise homosexuality without stating some of the consequences of it.
Of course if you voice your opinion others will call you a religious nut job or say you are homophobic.
I do think homosexuality is a choice. Its a choice in the sense that a person choses to carry out a sexual or romantic affair with someone of the same sex.
I also understand what some people are saying. Hollywood does have a gay agenda. I use the term gay agenda because most TV shows tend to support homosexuality when in realty Americans are split on the topic . it will be best to have a real and honest debate on the subject instead if it been one sided and favourable to those who support it.
It is also not fair to compare race and sex/gender.
Blacks have a history of racism, slavery, jim crow, been treated as second class citizens, lynching by their whites counterparts just for fun. gays don't have that kind of history.

Also, I know it's hard, and it's nice to see everyone give this guy the criticism he rightfully deserves, but in the future, let's just ignore any posts of his that deal with gays and notify the mods so we can deal with him. There's no need to give Westboro here more attention.

okay you stop then. where again is the tolerance? Why can't people tolerate others difference views on homosexuality.
I though tolerance was when people agree to disagree. instead of asking me to stop lets just choose to respectfully disagree on the topic.
Actually, this whole thing reminds me of the 'Is Brannon Braga Evil?' thread that was on the old AOL Star Trek message boards back in the '90s. Don't remember it? That's because i'm old...
