Hopefully they'll filter out sexists from the crowd.
The lead actress from The Hour would be an interesting choice for a woman Doctor, I think.
She's rumoured to be a bit of a prima donna/perfectionist/luvvie (delete as you choose); reportedly she so annoyed Ian McKellen when she was playing his daughter in King Lear that he started to send her up by 'method acting' Lear's senior moments, by taking a nap in mid-scene to see how she'd cope with not getting her next cue from him.
All of which means that I'm not sure be willing to cope with some of the 'How the !!! do we do this? Oh well, let's just try...' that comes with Who...
Also, she's recently had a baby; you can fit acting and motherhood together, obviously, but it's easier if you're doing short runs with breaks in between, not holding down a lead role who appears in an awful lot of scenes in 13 episodes a year.
I don't really want a female Doctor to begin with but if they do get one, I think she should be at best unconventionally attractive. The male Doctors have never been classic heartthrob types and a female Doctor shouldn't be classically beautiful IMHO. The actress from The Hour was a very good looking woman.
Can't quite think who I would say fit the bill - maybe someone like Anna Chancellor (also of The Hour).
I've been told Peter Capaldi has got the job, but I don't know how good the source is.

I think he would be great and a nice change of energy from Smith. But, I would be surprised.
Hmmmm...Matt Smith does a great job as The Doctor, IMHO, and that portrayal gives him a certain attraction, but, physical good looks is non-existent on my list of descriptions for him. He has no distinct features. Tennant, while too skinny for my tastes, was indeed physically good looking, but, Smith certainly isn't IMHO.I think he would be great and a nice change of energy from Smith. There's not a chance that the next Doctor won't be young and attractive. That's what the character is now and the BBC won't want to risk chasing off the new viewers that change has brought them.

I agree with you. But I personally know five women who think Matt Smith is the cutest thing since Adonis. They can't get enough of him. "He's so HOT!" etc.Hmmmm...Matt Smith does a great job as The Doctor, IMHO, and that portrayal gives him a certain attraction, but, physical good looks is non-existent on my list of descriptions for him.
