"Amazing Spider-man 2" discussion

There are a number of potential spinoff characters in the Spidey mythos. I suppose the obvious one is Venom (ugh), but there are also the Black Cat, various versions of Spider-Woman and Spider-Girl, Scarlet Spider, Madame Web, Silver Sable, Prowler, etc.

How about a movie centering on J. Jonah Jameson and the Daily Bugle staff? Lou Grant in the Marvel Universe, as the reporters deal with stories and crises involving superheroes and villains. You've got a huge cast to work with -- Jonah, Robbie Robertson, Ben Urich (assuming he's not part of the Daredevil rights package), Betty Brant, Ned Leeds, Glory Grant, Norah Winters, and so on.

A Spider-Woman movie would definitely be cool, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Of course no matter what the director says, it's almost certain the studio will insist on it being another Spidey-centric movie anyway, so it's probably not even worth speculating.

Or maybe an Ultimate Spider-Man with Miles Morales. Obviously they'd have to retool the origin a bit to place him in the same universe, but it wouldn't be that hard to do. It would be a perfect way to keep the same Spidey action, but with a completely fresh and unique character.

Plus he's got a really cool-ass costume.

Getting a bit ahead of themselves....

This just in from 1980: Superman IV will really, really suck.

Indeed not. In fact, I've had a thought about that:
I've read that they're doing a big crossover with Galactus invading the Ultimate Universe, and it's being billed as the "final" confrontation or something along those lines; so some are speculating that Marvel is about to cancel the Ultimate line due to flagging sales. But apparently Miles is still a popular character. And I gather that the Miles Morales of the 616 universe has already been introduced in an earlier crossover of the two Spider-Men. So my speculation is that their plan might be to bring the Ultimate Universe to an end, but then have Miles-616 become Spider-Man too, so that essentially the same character will continue to exist, but as part of the main universe.

So apparently Spider-Man 4 may not focus on Spider-Man.

Maybe it'll be about a clone ;)

Or maybe they'll adapt Superior-Spider Man into a movie. That way it would still be about Spidey, but it wouldn't be.

No keep that crap out of the only decent non Ultimate Spider-Man (comics not the mediocre cartoon) stuff out there.

Besides it sounds like Webb is planning on setting up a spinoff series not replacing spidey with a new guy.

Actually a 616 Miles has only been hinted at and we know nothing about the character or even if this version is alive, we just know Peter Parker looked him up and was shocked by what he found.

Peter returns from the dead but in Miles' body. hijinks ensue

Sounds to me like they don't have Andrew Garfield signed for a fourth movie yet, and they're hedging their bets. This could even be part of a negotiating tactic to show they're willing to go on without Andrew if he asks for too much money.

I would imagine that Andrew has to be either very naive or delusional if he doesn't already know that he's not indispensable to the franchise. They've already done one trilogy with another actor and its well known that Toby was almost replaced by Jake Gylenhall for the second movie, when he tried to play hardball. Anyway, Andrew, like Toby, will be well into his 30s by the time of any 4th movie and the series will probably be due an infusion of new blood anyway.

With Foxx's Electro looking more aligned with Arnie's Mr.Freeze TASM is perhaps going for a "best of the Schumacher years" with this entry?
