Star Trek III - The [Speculation Begins] (Spoilers)

William Shatner as Harry Mudd. Or would that be too distracting?

Wow. That would actually be kind of brilliant.

But in all seriousness, the only standards I have for the next Trek movie are:

(1) A good story that is compelling and entertaining, and
(2) A bit less blatant fan service.

And as long as (1) is mostly there, they can probably get away with (2) again, as far as I'm concerned.

I'd definitely like to see what Garth would have been like in his prime, as it were - if the accident that crippled him and drove him batshit insane never happened.

The actor? I'm thinking Bruce Boxleitner, actually.

Whatever they do in the next movie, I hope they take the opportunity to mature the characters to where they should be in their personal development in the original TOS 5 year mission.

Kirk is confident but not rash, Spock is in control but always on the inside edge of displaying emotion, McCoy is, well, McCoy. IMO, the Spock/Uhura thing has to go.

Maybe this has been the plan all along ... ?

The Spock/Uhura relationship has been a fundamental part of both of these movies; I doubt they'd drop it because the two didn't have a similar relationship on the original series. I can see the characters maturing a little bit more (as they did in Star Trek Into Darkness), but I doubt they're going to turn the crew into the exact same characters we saw on the original series.

Well, according to Old Spock the universe is trying to correct itself. ;)

This next one might be the last movie with this cast, so if things shake out like they would have been if the timeline wasn't disrupted it wouldn't be out of the question. I would not be surprised if we find out that Old Spock has died.

The relationship between Spock and Uhura is one of the better things about this version of the TOS characters - without question, an improvement. It should stay.

Wouldn't mind a few things mixed together....
klingon war
Harry mudd for.comic relief
Throw in Jim parsons as a vulcan
Captain Garth returns from the Laertian system sane

Bruce Boxleitner is one of the last things I think, when I hear the word "actor". :p

Hmmm...what next. While I wouldn't mind a Klingon- or Borg-centric movie, I wouldn't mind seeing some other things like the Kzinti that were going to make an appearance in the next season of Enterprise before it was cancelled.

Then there was the Kinshaya...this was a FASA construct, and the name would obviously need to be changed, but these creatures were said to have almost destroyed the Klingon Empire, coming from the far side of Klingon territory, opposite the Federation. The movie could still obviously have Klingons in it, but the true adversary would be the Kinshaya - for if the Klingons fall, the rest of the Alpha Quadrant would be easy pickings.

Gorn and/or Tholian appearances would also be good, but they are not as clearly known by non-fans as the Klingons or Borg would be. I'm thinking the new movie will either likely bring in a well-known adversary, or one that is almost completely new and unheard-of so they can paint on a fresh canvas.

I thought he was pretty good in B5 and Tron.
He was in the middle of the pack in B5. Of course when your "competition" is Claudia Christian and Richard Biggs it's easy to look good. Tron wasn't exactly an actors movie, still Jeff Bridges' left eyebrow out acted Boxleitner.

This is a long thread and I didn't read it all, so this has probably been said: It seems to me like the reboot gods are playing it safe. I think ST XIII will have as one component, the Marcus-Kirk back story.
