It uses the CPU to actually render a scene, and you can select how many processor cores you want it to use.

The GPUs are just to help with the user interface speed, especially on a really dense model. The more RAM on the Graphics Card the better. :)

I agree 110% with Ptrope... There the self anointed experts and uber-trolls roaming around on these pages/bbs. You just have to ignore them and go ahead on... you're work speaks for you...volumes. The rest of us however, enjoy the privilage of seeing your art, and wondering "What if?"

Thanks for sharing your time and talent!

With all humor aside, this take on the ol girl... Well, she's in her prime. :)

I may have to snag one of these for a desktop BG.

Wow. Great artwork, there. Very cool.

The only thing I'd add is something that bugs me with every incarnation of the original 1701, including the original model and remastered TOS: the ship doesn't look huge. TMP Enterprise's paneling helped sell that illusion, and I think it's not quite apparent enough on this model.

    Otherwise, very impressive. :)

I have been in constant contact with Rick over this model since I posted about it on my blog and I thought it was so much better than JJ verse ship, a much better bridge between the TOS and Refit versions.

Absolutely stellar work!!! Wow! I would have loved to see this fully rendered out in IMAX 3D. Just an absolutely wonderful re-imagining. Thank you very much for sharing.

Just one thing... Only when seeing that rendering with her around the two planets I noticed the windows at the right side of the engines are squared, while the ones at the left side are rounded. Is that intentional? :)

    Thanks guys. :D

Yep, the ones on the right side are similar to the Recreation Deck windows on the Refit Enterprise, like you can see in this shot:

    http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/twokhd/twokhd0508.jpg

We both felt that the window placement on the original Enterprise should probably have always looked they way they did on the Refit, so that's what we did with ours. :D

Not that I don't appreciate seeing those renders, but you're getting a little repetitive. At least add to some of the discussion around here rather than reposting someone else's work over and over.

(Oh, and beautiful work, MadMan! ;) )

After all these years of watching the Refit E, I never noticed that those windows were asymmetric like that. Just goes to show that there is always something new to discover.

    hi B.J.
I am Rick Carthew (1701TPA) ...my name appears on all of the renders I have posted of "The Prime Alternative"; as I am the other half of the design-team that created the designs for this entire Prime Alternative project. http://madshipyard.com/ThePrimeAlternative/Images/Orthos/Ortho_TopOrthoSheet_Final2.jpg

I appreciate that you were unaware of this fact, and Very Much Appreciate your, and all the other Stellar Artists on TREKBBS, for their kind words of praise about our designs enhancement, to the Great Matt Jefferies original Icon.

The 1701 Prime Alternative is a state of the art , 1/350 scale SFX Physical Model built by a former ILM veteran model builder, over the last 2 1/2 years. The Entire model was created via rapid prototyping ,using the CGI Model provided by Ricky Wallace. All hull plating maps, panel lines, saucer bands etc, all which are unique to this ship, were either created during the rapid prototyping process or laser-etched; and again created by using Ricky Wallace's CG maps.

    > Were also building a 12” Studio FX model of our Prime Alternative shuttle, using all the same methods. http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=50717

Again, thanks for the kind words about this project, as they are truly appreciated.

And I agree with you 100%, that MadMan’s work is truly beautiful! – he is now, over the last three years, my good friend and the only artist I wanted and pursued for this project! :)
